This day the court appointed Timothy Chandler guardian to Rebecca E Chandler, Narcissa Chandler, John Chandler & Joseph Chandler minor heirs of Wm Chandler decd. and thereupon the said Timothy Chandler came into court and gave bond for said guardianship in the sum of one thousand dollars with B.M. Chandler as his security and he was duly sworn as such guardian

This day Robert H Hodsden petition the court for a jury of
view to view to mark and lay off a road commencing on the top of the first Hill
East of his house and running with the old road on the nearest and most
practicable route to Eathertons in the direct course to Newport, which jury of
view the court refused to grant, because it appears to the court that there has
already been several juries on said road & several applications of a
similar nature have been recently made to this court.

The Jury of view heretofore appointed to mark out a Fourth Clap road from the Flat Creek road near Hills Brickyard to intersect the Sevierville road when it crosses Millican make the following report to wit,
We the undersigned being appointed a Jury of view to view out a road from the Flat Creek road to intersect the big road at P M & Thomas Atchleys to intersects Millican Creek after being duly sworn we bound it out to the best advantage and to the least damage to the people and marked the same this the 4th of April 1856

This day the committee appointed on yesterday to select a site for a courthouse and jail made the following report towit,
To the worshipful county court of
1st We can procure one square acre of land extending an equal distance from the center of the street each way for $325.00 and in addition to the above acre we can procure a good site for a jail on the corner of the

McNelly lot known as the Lanyard lot as a donation or obtained in the contract
2nd We can procure one & two third acres of land on the north side of the street extending to the river exclusive of the present court House lot for the sum of $1200.00.
3rd We would likewise report that we have the offer of the Catlett tavern lots on the south side of the street being the older tavern lots for $450.
4th We would also report that we have been offered an acre of land by Wm Catlett on the north side of the street opposite the Methodist church as a donation.
We would further most respectfully represent to your body that we as your committee are unanimously in favour of the first location mentioned in this report All of which is respectfully submitted

And thereupon unanimous vote of the court the first proposition made in the foregoing report was accepted and addopted (sic) by the court, and thereupon Elijah Cate, John Mullendore, E Hodges, J.C. Murphy & Ruel Birdwell was appointed as a committee to purchase the ground above named and to addopt (sic) a plans contract for and superintend the building of a court house on the above named lot also to addopt a plan contract for and superintend the building of a jail upon the ground mentioned for that purpose in said report, and it is further ordered by the court that a majority of said committee shall constitute a quorum and be authorized to transact any business pertaining to their appointment.
A Legal number of the justices of the peace being present and voting in the affirmative it is ordered by the court that a tax of twenty five cents on the hundred dollars worth of taxable property and twenty five cents on the poll be levied for the year 1856 for the purpose of building a courthouse and jail

The order for a jury of view
made at the January term 1856 of the county court to view and mark out a road
of the 2 clap from the top of the first Hill East of Dr. Hodsden running the
most direct route to Wm Etherton Sr. a copy of the same having issued and been
placed in the hands of the sheriff and the sheriff returned said copy of said
offer over the jury of view to this court with the following endorsement towit,
"Summoned all of the within named jury of view to meet at the house of
R.H. Hodsden on the 3rd April 1856. Lem Duggan Shff attended the day &

A paper purporting to be a certified copy of an order made at the last January Term was presented to court and on motion the Sheriffs return thereon is permitted by the Court to be spread upon the records which is in the records and figures following to wit, Sumoned (sic) all of the within named Jury of view to meet at the House of R H Hodsden on 3rd April 1856

H Hodsden who was the petitioner in the paper returned by the Shff and by
himself & atty asked the court that their former order made the last
quarterly court be renewed which application the court refused from which
opinion of the court Dr. Hodsden prays on appeal in the nature of a writ of
Error to the next term of the circuit court to be held for Sevier County on the
third Monday of July next which said appeal was granted the said Hodsden having
given bond and security for said appeal
