ibid Ordered by the court that James Carter be appointed overseer of the road from the Meeting house in the white oak flats to Preston Ogles and he is hereby required to keep said road in lawful repair with the hands on the farm of James Ogle and all hands above said James Ogle

The jury of view appointed heretofore to view and mark out a road of the road of the 4th Clap from William Shults to the ford of the river at Mrs. Evans make the following report to wit, We the undersigned Jury of view having been summoned and duly sworn as a Jury of view to view and mark out a road of the 4th clap beginning at William Shults have proceeded to lay out said road according to the above order to wit commencing at William Shults and running up the river on the west side of said river and intersecting the old road again at Mrs. Evans all of which we respectfully submit to the worshipful court this 11th day of April 1856.

A Legal number of the Justices being present & voting in the affirmative, ordered by the court that William Whaley be allowed fifteen dollars for keeping a child named Elizabeth Ogle until the 1st June 1857 payable out of any money in the hands of the Treasurer of the poor house not otherwise appropriated to issue at the end of the term

It appearing to the court that a number of county claims have
been burned up in the clerks office it is ordered by the court that the Trustee
pay said claims upon the persons to whom they were coming making affidavits of
that fact and that they have not transferred them to any person
Friday 11th April 1856.
This day the court proceeded to the election of a Tax Assessor for the county of Sevier for two years and after voting and counting out the votes it appeared that Samuel B. Henderson received Eleven votes and Thomas Maples Eight votes, thereupon it was declared that said Henderson was duly elected to the office of Tax assessor for two years. And thereupon the said Samuel B. Henderson entered into bond as required by law and who also took and subscribed in open court the oath of office which bond is in the words and figures following towit,

all men by these presents that we S B Henderson M A Rawlings & I O Dickey are
held and firmly bound unto the State of Tennessee in the penal sum of one
thousand dollars for the payment of which well and truly to be made we bind
ourselves our heirs Executors and administrators jointly and severally firmly
by these presents signed with our names Sealed with our seals and dated this 7th
day of April 1856. The condition of
the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound S B Henderson has
been duly appointed tax assessor for said county for the term of two years by
the county court of
Now if the said S B Henderson shall well and truly without partiality favour or prejudice make a correct assessment of the property to be by him assessed and faithfully discharge all the duties of his office imposed by law then this obligation to be void otherwise to remain in full force and virtue

ibid Ordered by the court that James Lane be appointed overseer of the road from the cross roads near Cusicks to the crop roads near Danl L Trundles and he is hereby required to keep said road in lawful repair with the following hands towit, the hands of the farm of John Whittle, the hands on the farm of James M McCroskey, the hands on William Waylands farm, the hands on the farm where Calvin Johnson now lives, the hands on Jonathan Wysong farm, the hands on James Lanes farm, and the hand son John Cusic farm

This day A. Lawson one of the Trustees of Nancy Academy came into court and renewed his bond with Saml Pickens as security also he gave a new bond in the Sum of one thousand dollars with Saml Pickens as his security as Treasurer of the board of Trustees of Nancy Academy.

This day Wm H Trotter one of the Trustees of Nancy Academy came into court and renewed his bond in the sum of fifteen hundred dollars with Isaac Trotter, as his security
This day Thomas Maples guardian Benjamin Hufft minor heir of John Hufft decd. came into open court and renewed his bond in the sum of five hundred dollars with James Maples as his security which bond was approved by the court.

intestate and having whilst living goods & chattels rights & credits
the court therefore appointed James Maples administrator of the Estate of the
said Edward Maples decd. and thereupon the said James Maples came into open
court gave bond in the sum of three hundred dollars with Thomas Maples & G
Maples as his security and was duly sworn according to law and

Whereas it hath been represented unto us in our County Court held for the county of Sevier at the court house in Sevierville on the Monday of May 1856 that Edward Maples late of said county, had died intestate, having whilst living and at the time of his death goods and chattels and credits, the ordering and granting administration whereof doth appertain unto us, and we being desireous (sic) that the said goods and chattels rights and credits may be well and faithfully administered do grant unto you the said James Maples full power, by these presents well and truly to collect and to take into your possession all and singular the goods and chattels rights and credits which were of the said Edward Maples deceased at the time of his death wheresoever the same may be found hereby requiring you to make or cause to be made and returned into our said court within ninety days a true and perfect inventory of said goods and chattels rights and credits, and also to render a true and clear account of said administration when there to required. the petition of Campbell Breeden it is ordered by the court that Joseph
Webb Bryant Breeden Sr. John Breeden, Fountain Lane, Lewis
Breeden, Wm Inman, Calvin Breeden be appointed a jury of view to view and mark
out an alteration in the road leaving the road below where Campbell Breeden now
lives and running up the creek on the left hand side of said creek so as to
intersect the old road at the crossing of the creek above the old Furnice
(sic), and that they report to the next quarterly term of this court.
