Josiah Cook murders Mrs. John Glassgow
Josiah Cook foully murdered Mrs. John Glassgow at his home, near Dover, on last Saturday.
Mrs. Glassgow was a neighbor and had been sent for to see after Cook's wife, who had just given birth. When the
good woman came in she brought some food in a basket for Mrs. Cook. Cook accused her of intending to poison his
family with the food and when she denied it he took down a gun and shot her dead. He was arrested and it is thought
that the belief that he is insane will prevent him from being mobbed. He claims to be a preacher from Kentucky,
and has only been in Stewart county a short while.
