The Tipton Rifles The first military group to be formed in Tipton County in 1861 and to be sent out to fight for the Confederacy. This group consisted of men from Covington and the surrounding areas. |

DEPARTED
Capt. John B. Turner left here last Tuesday morning for Memphis with company, destined for Germantown. A list of the officers and privates may be found in another column. Two more companies will soon leave this county, one cavalry and one foot company. Old Tipton is responding to the call of her country.
The following is a list of the names of the members of the Tipton Rifles, who left this place on Tuesday morning the 14th inst., for Germantown:
