JACKSON, JOHN J. - Dec 1, 1913 - May 28, 1989 - John J. Jackson, 75, retired farmer, died Sunday at Baptist Hospital-Lauderdale in Ripley at 2 p.m. today at Munford Funeral Home with burial in Ravenscroft Cemetery near Munford. He leaves six daughters, Mrs. Geraldine Carter of Roby, Mo., Mrs. Mary Ann Hunter of Burlison, Mrs. Carolyn Lanto and Mrs. Shelby Lowe, both of Reno, Nev., Mrs. Wanda Bellow of Kenosha, Wis., and Mrs. Paullette Belk of Atoka; four sons, Julian Jackson of Munford, Bryson Jackson of South Vienna, Ohio, Sanford Jackson and Algie Jackson, both of Covington, 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

JACKSON, LIZZIE - Lizzie Jackson, colored, wife of Alex Jackson, died at her home on the Mt. Carmel road, two miles south of the city, at 3 o'clock Saturday morning of tuberculosis.

JACKSON, SALLIE - Sallie Jackson, aged 88 years, a well known colored woman, died at the home of her grandson-in-law, Robert Walk, in this city, Tuesday, her death being due principally to the infirmities of old age, and was buried in the Tipton graveyard Wednesday. "Aunt Sallie", as she was affectionately called by her white friends, was a slave in ante-bellum days, a servant in the home of the late Dr. La Fayette Hill, Sr., and was a true type of the old Southern "black mammy", now rapidly becoming extinct, and her death is much regretted by those whom she so faithfully served, both before and after the civil war.

JACKSON, WILLIAM - William Jackson, 78, a former well known and highly esteemed citizen of the Burlison vicinity, this county, but who for the past 20 years had been making his home at Locke, Shelby county, died Saturday midnight, after a month's illness. His body was brought after his death to Maley's funeral home, this city, where the funeral, conducted by Rev. G.W. Tracy, of Holiness church was held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, after which the interment took place in Munford cemetery. Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife, five sons, and two daughters. He was a native of Greene county, Tennessee, but had been a resident of Tipton county for a great many years.

JACOBS, J. W. - Mr. J. W. Jacobs, an old and well known citizen of this city for many years, died at his home, at Bride, Wednesday night, after a long illness and his burial occurred today at 1:30 at Mt. Lebanon graveyard. Mr. Jacobs was a millwright, experienced and efficient in his trade, a man of wide information and had many friends who will regret to learn of his death.

JAMES, "Child" - The little three-year-old daughter of Mr. David James, of the Bloomington neighborhood, died Saturday morning, after an illness of ten days, and was buried at Salem Cemetery Sunday morning, after funeral services conducted at the residence by Rev. I. S. Caldwell.

JENNINGS, ELIZA WILSON - We learned Saturday of the sudden death at her home in Wilmar, Ark., last week of Mrs. Eliza Jennings. Mrs. Jennings was a daughter of the late Hugh Wilson and was born in the vicinity of Clopton, this county, but the greater portion of her had been spent in Arkansas. Mrs. Jennings had a great many relatives in this county. She leaves surviving her her husband and eight children.

JOHNSON, FRANK - Frank Johnson, a well known colored man, died at his home in this city Sunday night at 12 o'clock, after a long illness and was buried in the Townsend graveyard Monday afternoon. Johnson was between 60 and 65 years of age.

JOHNSON, LARRY WAYNE - COVINGTON - Larry Wayne Johnson, 31, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Covington, employee of Federal Credit Union of Houston, died Saturday in Houston after a long illness. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Charleston Cemetery in Stanton. Maley-Yarbrough Funeral Home has charge. He was a member of Covington Church of Nazareth and had attended Dyersburg Community College and Treveca College in Nashville. Johnson leaves his parents, Jessie and Florence Johnson of Covington; three sisters, Mrs. Patricia Dunkin of Blytheville, Mrs. Doris Hartsfield of Covington and Mrs. Katherine Marshall of Whiteville, and three brothers, John Johnson of Covington, Donald Johnson of Brownsville and Frank Johnson of Memphis.

JOHNSTON, MRS. JOHN A. - Mrs. John A. Johnston, mother of Mrs. A. C. Strayhorn, of this vicinity, died of pleurisy at her home in Ripley Wednesday. Mrs. Strayhorn had been attending her bedside for several days.

JONES, EDDIE - Died, On Wednesday evening, Nov. 7
th, Eddie Jones, 970 Lane Ave., died at 1 o’clock. Death occurred at the home of his sister, Mrs. Emma Whitmore, Mason, Tennessee. He is survived by a wife and a host of relatives. The funeral services were held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Freedonia Baptist Church, Mason, Tenn.(Memphis Triangle, November 17, 1928, submitted by Marla Zwakman)
JOY, BETTIE - Mrs. Bettie Joy, aged 69 years, widow of the late Buck Joy, died at her home in the vicinity of Oak Grove at 2 o'clock Saturday, of pneumonia, after an illness of only a few days, and was buried in Oak Grove cemetery Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Rev. T. Riley Davis conducting the funeral services. Mrs. Joy is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Sidney Bringle and Mrs. Dora Glass, and by a son, Mr. Gap Joy. She was a consistent member of Oak Grove Baptist church, and was a most excellent woman.
