W. L. SPARKMAN and Lucinda SPARKMAN
To
J. S. SPARKMAN

This indenture made and entered into between W. S. SPARKMAN and his wife LUCINDA SPARKMAN of the county of Williamson and State of Tennessee of the first part and J. S. SPARKMAN of the second part, also of the county and state above named. Witnesseth, that for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have this day bargained, sold and conveyed and by their presents do bargain, sell and convey unto the said J. S. SPARKMAN a certain tract or parcel of land in District No. 2 on the head waters of Lick Creek, in said county and bounded as follows, BEGINNING on 2 dogwoods, 2 sycamores on SMITHs branch at the mouth of ___ hollow, thence of SMITHs branch with all is different meanders 285 poles to a sugartree _________ 2 dogwoods, thence __88W78[?] poles to a poplar, thence SW78 poles, black oak white oak and double chestnut ash on old road, thence S35E62poles a white oak and small hickory, thence S13E86 poles to a chestnut double dogwood and hickory, thence S87E50 poles to 4 dogwoods and 2 hickory, thence N43E40 poles to the head of a hollow, thence down as it meanders 38 poles to the BEGINNING. Containing one hundred and fifteen acres to have an to hold the above described tract of land with all the appurtinances thereunto belonging or in anyway apportaining[sic] and the WM S. SPARKMAN and wife TOULY for ourselves and heirs do covenant and agree with said J. S. SPARKMAN. We are lawfully seized and possessed of said land and have a right to convey the same, and furthermore we bind ourselves our heirs to forever defend the title thereof against the lawful claims of any and all persons whatever to the said J. S. SPARKMAN. Testimony whereof we hereunto set our hands and affix our seals this 15 day of Oct 1885.

SPARKMAN, the within named bargainer with whom I am personally acquainted and who acknowledges that he executed the within and attached deed for the purpose therein contained. [Witness my hand…crossed out] and seal at office in Franklin this 10 day of Feby 1887

Mrs. LUCINDA SPARKMAN wife of W. L. SPARKMAN, having personally appeared before me, and having by virtue of the authority in me vested, been examined privately and apart from her said husband, and she having acknowledged the due execution of the written (or annexed) deed by her freely, voluntarily and understandingly, without compulsion or constraint by her said husband, and for the purposes therein expressed this same is therefore certified. Witness my hand and seal this fourth (4th) day of February 1887.
