Fort Bliss
El Paso, Texas
Fort Bliss was established in
1868 as a post on the Rio Grande, 3 miles northeast of El Paso.
The lands encompass 1265 acres that was purchased in 1890 and
designed for a garrison of four companies of calvary
or infantry. The original Fort Bliss was sold for 4, 950
dollars. A road was built from El Paso to the new Fort Bliss
with the proceeds of the sale.
