Duran Alvarado, 71, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008.
Rosary will be recited
at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, followed by the
funeral Mass, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in
Marfa. Alpine Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of
arrangements.Mrs. Alvarado was born Jan. 9, 1937,
and lived all but a few years in Marfa. She spent
many years teaching math, Spanish, English as a
second language and Catholic catechism. She was a
devout Catholic and an active member of St. Mary’s
Catholic Church.
“She loved her town
and the people in it, and there are few who do not
know her name,” said her family. “It was through
her gracious actions that her faith shown through
most spectacularly. A person’s needs were her call
to act, and she always answered. Her courage and
devotion to helping her fellow neighbor enabled her
to touch the lives of each of her students, her
friends, the community and her family. For her
children, there was no limit to the lengths she
would go to provide for them. For her friends, there
were no number of miles she would not travel to see
them. And for all of us, there are not enough words
to describe the amount of concern she felt for us
all. The legacy she leaves behind is one of
extraordinary love. ”Survivors include her husband
Pablo, sons Pablo and Frank, granddaughters Amy and
Michaela, siblings Armando, Agueda and Linda, and
numerous nieces and nephews. Alpine

"Red" Baker, 48, of Amarillo died Sunday,
Dec. 14, 2008. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m.
Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Jim
Fox officiating. Arrangements are by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon
Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St. Red
was born July 2, 1960, in Marfa and had been an
Amarillo resident since 1983. He worked for Anderson
Merchandising for 10 years. He
was preceded in death by his mother, his
grandparents and a nephew. Survivors
include his father, Albert Gerald Baker of Amarillo;
a son, Darrell Wayne Baker of Amarillo; a brother,
Albert Baker of Amarillo; and two nieces, Bobbie
Baker and family and Teresa Leach and family. Amarillo

EL PASO, Nov. 5 AP—William
Neadom Burson. 36-ycar-old WPA engineer of Marfa,
died in a hotel here Friday of peritonitis.
His body was sent the same day to Marfa where
funeral services were hold at 1 p. m. Saturday,
