Robert D. Akins Of Balmorhea Dies Robert D. Akins, 86, who fell ill while passing through here and bad to be hospitalized, died Thursday evening. Mr. Akins was a retired cafe operator at Balmorhea, where he had resided for many years. The remains were to be taken by the Eberley-River Funeral Home to Waco where services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Wilkerson-Hatch Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery at Waco. Mr. Akins is survived by two sons, R. S. Akins of Balmorhea and M. E. Akins of Sierra Blanca. Jose Alvarado, 84, of Pecos, a retired laborer, died Wednesday, October 5, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. today at Pecos Funeral Home. Ernest D. Balcom Dies; Burial Held Here Tuesday Burial services for Ernest D. Balcom, 95, of 3500 Fairmount, retired chairman of the board of the Dallas Transfer & Terminal Warehouse Co., were held Tuesday in Oakland Cemetery. Born in Marlboro, Mass., and a Dallas resident since 1918, Mr. Balcom died here Sunday. Before entering the warehouse business in 1918, he had been chief engineer for an irrigation system in New Mexico end pert owner and manager of Toyah Valley Land and Irrigation Co. in West Texas. Die town of Balmorhea, Reeves County, is named for Mr. Balcom and his partners, H. R. Morrow and John and Joe Rhea. He had been president of Dallas Transfer & Terminal Ware- house from 1919 until 1938 when he retired and assumed the position of chairman of the board in an advisory capacity. He had held this poet until the company merged with Interstate Trinity Warehouses in 1969 to form Great Southwest Warehouses, Inc. A member of the American Warehousemen Association, he served as the first president of the Southwestern Warehouse men Association and was a member; of the National Furniture Warehouse Association. Mr. Balcom was a member of the national committee which helped to frame the legislation which brought the trucking industry under the Interstate Commerce Commission in 1036. He was also a founder of the Southwestern Motor Freight Bureau. Survivors: Two daughters, Mrs. Chester E. Bradley Sr. and Mrs. Everett J. Ward of Dallas, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Eugene Baeza, 85, of Pecos, a truck driver, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007, in El Paso. A rosary was said Sunday at Pecos Funeral Home Chapel. Mass was celebrated Monday at Santa Rosa Church. He was born July 1, 1920, in Stith, Jones County, was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps., a retired fieldman for Exxon and a Protestant. Thomas James Clarke passed away on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, after a long, courageous battle with dementia. Funeral service will be held at Johnson's Funeral Home on Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 11 a.m. A private burial will follow. Tommy was born March 28, 1919, in Toyah. He was the only child of Tom and Virginia Clarke. He attended high school at Panhandle High School, where he was a member of the 1936 Class B Regional Football Champions. Tommy was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving six years in the signal corps during World War II. He was stationed in Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Greenland. On June 7, 1946, he married Jo Ruth Fortenberry in Dallas. Tommy worked as an engineer for General Telephone Co. for 40 years. He and Jo lived in Robstown and Raymondville before settling in San Angelo in 1954. Tommy was a member of the GTE Pioneer Club. He loved to travel with his wife, Jo, and enjoyed watching football. Survivors include his wife, Jo; sons Jim and Anne Clarke of Sachse, and Jerry and Jane Clarke of Austin; and daughter Penni and Larry Kappmeyer of Katy. Grandchildren include Jennifer and Paul Johnson of Sachse, Jason and Tess Clarke of Dallas, Jake Clarke of Austin, and Paige Kappmeyer, Clarke Kappmeyer and Ross Kappmeyer, all of Katy. Great-grandchildren include Ethan and Kate Johnson of Sachse. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Walter Bonner. Robert D. "Bob" Enloe, 42, of Saragosa, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at Hospice House of Odessa. He was born Oct. 8, 1958, in Houston, was a water system operator, served in the United States Navy from 1977 to 1998 and had lived in Saragosa for several years. Edna Glier, 81, of Pecos, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, in Austin. Funeral services will be held at Friday, Oct. 14, at First Christian Church in Pecos, with Rev. Ernie Waggoner officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery. Glier moved to Pecos when she was 10 years old, and lived with her family during childhood in the Courtney Hotel, which later became the West of the Pecos Museum. She was an active member of First Christian Church, a past president of the PTA, the Modern Study Club, and the CWF Fellowship. She was a graduate of in education from Sul Ross University, and taught fourth grade in Pecos for seven years before moving to Jasper, with her husband, Frank, in 1978. While in Jasper, she received her Master of Education from Stephen F. Austin University, and taught for 13 more years before retirement. After the death of her husband, she moved to Austin to be near family. Glier was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Glier. Survivors include three daughters, Deanne Glier Phillips of Buda, Jane Glier Swanson of Meridian, Mississippi, and Janan Glier Page of Malibu, California; her twin sister, Edith Reaves of El Paso; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  Wanda Hoffman Memorial services for Wanda Brasuel Hoffman, a former Pecos resident, are scheduled for Saturday, January 27, 2001 at the Chapel of the Hills in Austin. Hoffman died on Friday, Jan 19, 2001, after a battle with cancer. Roy Dee Prewit, 64, of Pecos, died Thursday, May 26, 2005, at his residence. A memorial service was held Saturday, May 28, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel. He was born Nov. 25, 1940, in Pecos, a lifelong Pecos resident and the owner of Pecos Insurance. Franky Lynn Hadlock Ramsey passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 in Del Rio, TX. Franky’s passing came after an 8-year battle with cancer and related health illnesses. Through out the past 8 years Franky’s strength, driven spirit and positive attitude were unwavering. Her example is inspiration to us all. She was 69 years old. Franky was born in El Paso, TX on May 4th, 1935 to Evelyn and Frank Hadlock, Jr. Frank Hadlock, Jr. preceded her in death in 1936. She was raised in El Paso by her mother and stepfather Dr. L.O. Dutton. Upon graduation from El Paso High School, she attended Texas Tech University. While a student at Tech she met fellow student William Richard (Bill) Ramsey. They were married on July 5th, 1955 in El Paso, TX. Upon Bill’s graduation from Tech in 1956 they moved to Pecos, TX where Bill began a successful career in Agriculture. Franky’s devotion was raising her family. Melinda Ramsey Ward was born October 15, 1956 in Lubbock, TX and William Scott Ramsey was born September 1, 1959 in Pecos, TX. The Ramsey Family enjoyed the 1960’s life in Pecos where life was simple and families were the focus. Upon their arrival in Pecos they developed life long friendships with other Pecos families who were also embarking on agricultural careers. Many of these families today remain very dear and treasured friends. Franky was a very gifted and talented artist. Her other interest included Fishing, Painting, Bridge, Ceramics, Tennis, Swimming, Card Playing, Sewing, Quilting, Cross Stitching and Reading. She was also a long time member and active supporter of the First United Methodist Church of Pecos, TX. Franky’s Father, Step Father and Mother preceded her in death. Franky is survived by her husband of 49 years William Richard (Bill) Ramsey of Pecos, Daughter, Melinda Ward and husband Jerry Ward of Stephenville, TX, Son, Wm. Scott Ramsey and wife Ellen Ramsey, grandchildren Rachel Ellen Ramsey and Tucker Scott Ramsey of Midland. Doyle Reed Doyle A. Reed, 47, of Pecos died on Friday, Dec. 15, 2000 at Reeves County Hospital. Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 19 at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. James Henderson officiating. He was born on August 24, 1953, in Crosbyton, was a retired laborer and a lifelong resident of Pecos and a Baptist. Lila Rodriguez Friday, 26 June 2009 Lila Chavez Rodriguez, 86, of Big Spring died Thursday, June 25, 2009, in a local hospital. Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2009, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009, at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Father Ariel Lagunilla officiating.  Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.   She was born Dec. 10, 1922, in Toyah and married Gus Rodriguez in September 1949 in Stanton. He preceded her in death on June 20, 1990. She came to Big Spring as a young girl with her family and lived here most of her life. During World War II, she and her sister, Pola Gomez, worked for the Texas and Pacific Railroad. They were two of a number of hispanic women who filled in for the men that were in the military service. Lila had worked at Hall-Bennett Hospital in housekeeping for 22 years before retiring. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. Survivors include three sons, Bob Montanez and wife Anita D. of Odessa, and Gilbert Rodriguez and Manuel Rodriguez, both of Big Spring; four grandchildren, Julio Montanez of Ft. Worth, Gilberto Rodriguez Jr., Ana Maria Rodriguez and Marisela Rodriguez, all of Big Spring; a brother and sister-in-law, Savas and Chita Chavez of Holland, Mich.; a niece, Sulema Roman; and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; four sisters; a daughter, Ana Maria Rodriguez; and two nieces, Sarah Roman and Fita Rubio. Pallbearers will be Julio Montanez, Gilberto Rodriguez Jr., Andy Gamboa, Benito Rubio, Jody Rodriguez and Jeremy Johnson. Wayne Timmerman Wayne Timmerman, 66, of Balmorhea, died Thursday, July 18, 2002, at Reeves County Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 23, at the First Baptist Church in Balmorhea with Virgil Gage officiating. He was born Sept. 18, 1935, in Floresville, was an United States Army veteran who was a presidential honor guard at Ft. Myers, Va., from 1958 until 1960, had lived in Balmorhea for 21 years and was a farmer/rancher. He was preceded in death by one son, Joe Timmerman. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Timmerman of Balmorhea; one son, Tim Timmerman of Van Horn; one daughter, Meg Timmerman of Ft. Davis; two brothers, August Timmerman of Falfurrias, Kenneth Timmerman of Agua Dulce, Tx.; four sisters, Marion Bayliss of Somerville, Elizabeth Timmerman of Agua Dulce, Tx., Jeanette Boerjan of Falfurrias and Shirley Pickering of Contrecoeur, Quebec.  Bianca Urisa, 9, of Del Valley, Tx., died Thursday, July 4, 2002, at Pecos County Memorial Hospital in Fort Stockton, following a car accident. Mass was held at 11 a.m., today, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. She was born Dec. 23, 1992, in El Paso, was a student and a Catholic. Survivors include her parents, Ezequiel Urias and Mireya Urias of Del Valley; her grandparents, Julia Olivas of Pecos, Esequiel Montes of Chih., Mexico, Maria Ester Nunez of Chih. Joe White, Chisholm Trail Driver, Is Dead BRADY, McCulloch Co, Texas. Oct13 AP" Joe H. White 78, pioneer Texas cattleman, died Friday. Coming to Texas in 1876 from Missouri. White became a trail driver and accumulates considerable ranching interests in Concho and Reeves Counties. He made many trips with herds over the Chisholm Trail in to Kansas. He was a personal friend of the Indian chief Quanah Parker, who ranged the Southwest half a century. Funeral services for White were held Saturday at the home. Surviving are his wife, one daughter. J C Wilson Prominent Pecos area resident vho had been Texas Peccs River Commissioner since 1949, died about noon Wednesday at his ranch home near Balmorhea. The 73-year-old rancher had had a lengthy illness. Wilson, who was called by many West Texans "Mr. Pecos River", was a leader in obtaining the desalinization plant at Malaga Bend, N.M.; the federal salt cedar eradication program started along the Pecos River and many other programs, including sevsral large irrigation projects. Graveside rites will be held at 6 p.m. Friday in Balmorhea Cemetery. Pecos Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Wilson was born Jui. 10, 1895, in Oak Grove, La., and moved to Pecos in 1917 from Carlsbad, N.M., where he had lived four years. c In Pecos, Wilson joined the Pruitt Co., parent organization of Pecos Mercantile. A veteran of World War I, Wilson served overseas with the COth Division. After the war, the Pecos man worked for the Mercantile firm until the late 19?? when  he started farming full time. He owned cantaloupe and cotton farms in the Presidio, Pecos and Grandfalls areas. Wilson was getting much instrumental in early cotton legislation through Congress, which later was beneficial to West Texas producers. Wilson is also given for building the Pecos area into one of the largest cotton growing areas in the nation.  He was first president of Texas Cotton Industries which operated a cottonseed crushing plant at Marfa and a string of of nine gins. That organization was later taken over by the West Texas Cottonoil Co., a subsidiary of Anderson, Clayton and Co. He was also a founder of the Big Bend Gin Co., which operated two gins in the Presidio area in 1924. BIG SPRING (RNS) - Funeral services for Claude Irving Wright Sr., 63, will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Nally - Pickle Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mr. Wright, who came to Big Spring in 1923, died unexpectedly early Saturday at his residence, He was born July 26, 1898, in Eastland, and married Miss Alice Dublin, Nov. 14, 1920, in Pecos. He was an electrician with the Railroad from 1923 to  1958, when he retired, He was a member of the First Christian Church and affiliated with several masonic bodies.
