THREE YOUTHS IN VALLEY HURT IN TWO AUTO MISHAPS

Harlingen, Jan 2 -- Two Harlingen youths, football stars on the local team a year ago, and one San Benito youth were injured in two automobile crashes at the end of the bridge over the Arroyo Coloroda here early Tuesday.

The Harlingen boys, Louis Lawrence and Luther Johnson escaped death when the sedan they were in crashed into the concrete balustrade at the edge of the bridge, shattering some of the posts, then swung to the other side of the bridge. Lawrence escaped with minor injuries, while Johnson was thrown clear of the car and suffered a broken pelvis and cuts and bruises.

James Purvis of San Benito, who stationed himself near the wreck and sought to slow down traffic with a flashlight to prevent other crashes, was severely bruised and cut when another automobile disregarded his signals and crashed into the Lawrence car, throwing it against him.
