Investigation of Willacy Slayings Ordered by Court
Raymondsville, Texas -- Sept. 11 -- A special jury commission was called today to select a grand jury to investigate
the deaths of two officers and five persons in Willacy county recently. The special commission was called by District
Judge A. W. Cunningham when he arrived here today. The grand jury is expected to assemble Monday.
The two officers killed were Leslie D. Shaw and Louis May, shot when going to investigate the sound of a shot in
the Mexican quarter of the town. There was a roundup of suspects after the officers were killed. Five of them were
leading the officers to a place where guns with which the officers were killed were reported hidden. Shots were
fired at the officers and in the cross fire the prisoners were killed. [Abilene
