Mr. and Mrs. Frank P. Jackson have, returned from Goldthwaite where they attended a family reunion of Mr. Jackson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Jackson. There were 25 children anti grandchildren in attendance. The Jackson's visited Mrs. Jackson's mother, Mrs. C. H. Wolfertz and Mrs. B, E. Haddick in Waco en route home.  Fatal Affray A Shooting Bee in Mills County Over a Trivial Affair. Goldthwaite, Tex., May II.—A difficulty occurred yesterday afternoon at Smith school house, twelve miles from town. In which Thomas B. Weathers was fatally Injured, Will Curtis was shot through the fleshy part of the thigh and John Patton through the leg just above the knee. A populist meeting was being held at the school house, -when a previous quarrel between the parties mentioned over a trivial matter was renewed. Curtis, while a party to the quarrel, was unarmed. After being wounded, he Jumped behind a tree, 'which received a bullet Intended for him. It was at first thought that Patton's log was broken, but It seems that the ball paralyzed the nerves, causing him to fair, and that the knee was dislocated in falling. Two shots were fired at his head while ho was down and his face Is powder burned. Weathers received but one shot. The ball entered three Inches below the right nipple, passed through the liver and left lung and lodged under the skin on the left side. After receiving this wound he mounted his horse and rode home. Allen Weather's was lodged In Jail last night by Sheriff Gersem, who with Drs. Logan and Barton and The News correspondent, reached the scene of the trouble Just at sundown. Goldthwaite Happenings . Goldthwaite, Mills Co., Tex., April 26,.- Children's day was observed by the Baptist congregation with an entertainment In the evening under the management of Mrs. A G. Bass. The recitations and songs by the children were well rendered. Singing by the glee club was a feature of the evening- Elmer Queen, oldest son of W. W. Queen while driving stock near town lost Friday was thrown from his horse. At first his Injuries were thought to be slight, but he Is now suffering from internal inflammation and is thought to be In .a critical condition. Mr. E. S. Fagg, steward of the Tremont and Beach, left last night to surprise some of his relatives living In Goldthwaite, Tex. Twelve years corresponding and some exchange of photos are as near as Sir. Fagg has ever been to his cousins and for as many years he has been promising to visit them. Securing a few days' leave of absence, he departed last night without the formality of wiring or phoning of his coming, but laden with the essential goodies for a genuine surprise when he lands In the village.
