First fight in Tulia ends
with fatal shot
Amarillo, Texas, July 31 -- Josh Cox, aged 30, was fatally shot in the back 5 times Sunday afternoon with
an automatic pistol, and John and Jim [and] Hugh Brown, brothers-in-law of Cox, are held in the Swisher county
jail at Tulia, pending preliminary hearings. Jim Brown is being held as directly connected with the shooting. The
four men were engaged in a fist fight on the main street of Tulia, and during the affray the fatal shots were fired.
Cox is survived by his wife. The funeral will be held today.

Georgia Lou Rice
Georgia Lou Rice, 75, a native of Happy, Texas, and resident of Gray, La., died at 4 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Rice of Gray; three sisters, OmaGene Richey, Doris Kennedy and Peggy Russell;
three sons, Larry Rice of Carlsbad, N.M., Keith Rice and wife Laura of Houston, and David Rice and wife Sandra
of Prairieville; one daughter, Lee Estock and husband Karl of Atlanta; and 10 grandchildren, Jamie Andersen and
husband Nils, Jennifer and Stephen Rice, Ryan Porche, Jesse, Jason, Randi, Dillon and Cassidy Rice, and Jake Estock.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Walter and Beulah Kennedy, and seven brothers and sisters, Patricia
Bates, Buster Kennedy, Billy Kennedy, Viola Horton, Velma Gayle, Sue Bookout and Jimmie Lee Blount.
She will be missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
