M. G. Winning
HENRIETTA, TEXAS, Feb. 6- M.G. Winning, 65 years of age, passed away this morning at 3:15, cause, pneumonia and heart trouble. Mr. Winning was born in Berkley county, Virginia. When a young man he went to St. Louis, where he spent a large part of his life. He came to this city in 1889 and engaged in the hardware business, which he continued for several years.
Lately he has been deputy sheriff and tax collector. A man who had held several important positions and was well liked by all who knew him. He was an Odd Fellow and a Knights Templar at the time of his death. He leaves a wife, two daughters and a son, as well as a host of friends to mourn his loss.

S. E. Sherwood
Dallas Morning News – 6 Jan. 1902
Wellington , Tex. , Jan. 4. – S. E. Sherwood died here Wednesday morning. Mr. Sherwood was well known throughout Western Texas and the Indian Territory , especially among the stockmen. He lived in Clay County when that part of the county was considered the frontier of the State. From there he moved to the Indian Territory . Mr. Sherwood came to Collingsworth County about two years ago.

J. A. Hayes
Dallas Morning News – 26 Jan. 1920
Wellington, Collingsworth Co., Texas , Jan. 25. – J. A. Hayes was shot and mortally wounded at the Crews ranch near here today. Hayes died in a local sanitarium this evening. Jay Hill was arrested on a charge of murder and placed in the county jail.

M. W. Deavenport
Dallas Morning News – 13 Feb. 1911
Wellington , Tex. , Feb. 12. – Major M. W. Deavenport of this place died yesterday at 4 o’clock . Major Deavenport formerly lived at Denton and Quanah, but has lived in Collingsworth County for the last fifteen years. He was 86 years old. He leaves two sons and two daughters, who are all prominent people in this part of the State.

Gen. T. C. Gordon
DIED ALONE
The Vernon Courier (Lamar County AL) - Jan 9,1890
St. Louis, Jan. 6 – A special to the Republic from Gainesville, Tex. says: Intelligence reached here today from Clay county, eighty miles west of Gainesville of the finding of the body of Gen. T. C. Gordon, who died in his storehouse on his ranch, where he had lived alone for some years. Gordon was a prominent officer in the Confederate army. After the war he was attorney general of Arkansas for several terms. He has lived in Clay County about ten years, during which time he has accumulated a fortune, consisting of land and cattle.

Jessie Mira Long
Saturday Funeral Services Held for Mrs. Jessie Long
Funeral services for Mrs. Jessie Mira Long, 85, of Levelland were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at Geo. C. Price Funeral Chapel in Levelland. Officiating was Rev. Jerry Howe, pastor of Second Baptist Church in Levelland.

Burial followed in the City of Levelland Cemetery under the direction of Geo. C. Price Funeral Directors.
She died at her home at 1:54 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 8, after a lengthy illness. She was under the care of Pro Health Care.
She was born Aug. 14, 1913 in Clay County, TX, and had been a resident of Levelland since 1941, moving here from Abernathy, TX. She married Clinton Long on June 29, 1939 in Sunnyside, OK.
She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
She is survived by her husband, Cling Long of Hobbs, NM; two daughters, Linda McKay of Levelland, and Carolyn Barnes of Hastings, OK; two sisters, Blanche Sparks of Ryan, OK, and Mary Waters of Pomona, CA; 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Bill Durham, Jay McKay, Greg McKay, James Humphreys, Joe Dan Humphreys, and David Duffee.
