Barbecue Is Given In Honor Of Miss Lucille Rix, Joe Pickle

    Complimenting Joe Pickle and his bride-elect, Miss Lucille Rix whose proposed marriage of June 15 was announced recently, Herald and KBST staff members were guests for a barbecue Monday evening at the recreation house on Scenic Mountain.
    The couple plan to be married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Rix, and immediately following the ceremony will leave on a wedding trip to California, via American Airlines.
    Those paying tribute to the honored couple by attending the affair were Joe Galbraith, host, and manager of The Herald, Jack Kolthoff of Chicago, Dr. R. B. G. Cowper, guests, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Whipkey, Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. M. K. House, Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Fleetwood, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Lucille Rix Becomes Bride of Joe Pickle

Candlelight Service At 8:30 O'clock Joins Two Prominent Big Spring Families; Ceremony In H. L. Rix Home

Before a candle-lighted and flower banked fireplace, Miss Lucille Rix, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Rix, and Joe D. Pickle, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Pickle, recited their marriage vows at 8:30 o'clock Tuesday evening.
    A few close friends and relatives of the bridal couple were assembled in the Rix home, 406 Gregg, to hear the ring ceremony read by Rev. C. A. Bickley, pastor of the First Methodist Church.
    The bride, given in marriage by her father, was attired in a handsome blue chiffon gown of floor length. A bridal veil added charm to the pink headdress of halo design. She carried an arm bouquet of pink gladioli.
    Miss Evelyn Merrill was only attendant to the bride. She was handsomely gowned in peach lace with headdress of similar design. She wore a shoulder corsage of yellow roses.
    Allen Stripling of Gainesville served as best man. Miss Mary Vance Keneaster played Lohengrin's Wedding March. She wore a lovely gown of chartreuse chiffon with a corsage of sweetpeas in pastel shades.
 

Reception
    A reception at the home followed the ceremony. In the dining room, which was lighted by white tapers in crystal candelabra, the three-tiered wedding cake, centered the table, which was laid with a Madaria cloth, appointed by a crystal bowl of Shasta daisies.
    The bride cut the cake which was served with ice cream by Mrs. Lewis Rix and Mrs. Chester Matheny. Guests were ushered into the room by Mrs. Ralph Rix.
    Following a wedding trip to California, via American Airlines, the couple will return to Big Spring and make their summer home at 1201 Runnels. Mrs. Pickle chose a white sharkskin suit with blue accessories for traveling. The couple left on the 7:45 train this morning for El Paso, at which point they will board the plane for points of California.
    Both Mr. and Mrs. Pickle are leading young people in Big Spring having received their high school education here. Mrs. Pickle attended Texas Tech in Lubbock and Mr. Pickle received his degree from Baylor University, Waco.
    Mr. Pickle is reporter on the Big Spring Herald staff and Mrs. Pickle resigned her position as society editor to become married.

    Out of town guests here for the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Rix of Lubbock, Mrs. Guy C. Victory of Lubbock, Mr. and Mrs. Carl L. Svenson of Lubbock, Mr. and Mrs. John Cason of Lamesa, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Hilliard of Lockheart, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Rix and daughter, Carroll, of Odessa, and Mrs. Bishop Bailey of El Paso.
    Other guests included Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Pickle, parents of the groom, Mr. and Mrs. Miller Harris and son, Jimmie, Miss Judith Pickle, Jake Pickle, Mrs. Sarah Deats, Mrs. Alfred Moody and children, Elizabeth, Sonny and Charles, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Pickle, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Pickle, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Rix, Mrs. Ralph Rix, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Matheny, and Mr. and Mrs. Randal Pickle and children, Joan and Don.


Matheny-Rix Nuptials Take Society Spotlight In Christmas Season Ceremonies
 

    In a quiet wedding on Christmas eve, Miss Eleanor Rix became the bride of Chester D. Matheny at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey L. Rix, in the presence of her immediate family and friends.
    The bride entered on the arm of her father and joined the bridegroom beneath a holly arch where C. A. Bickley read the ring ceremony. She was modishly attired in a dark ensemble and wore a shoulder corsage of pink rosebuds.
    Mrs. Matheny is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rix and is a native of this city. She completed her high school work in the local schools and was later employed in the offices of the Retail Merchants Association where she is continuing her work.
    Mr. Matheny, the son of C. C. Matheny of Waco, has made his home in this city for the past four years where he is employed in the advertising department of the Montgomery Ward Company. He attended high school in Naples and was employed in the display department of Sanger's in Waco before joining the Ward company.
    Following the wedding, an informal reception was held and guests were served from a table beautifully decorated with seasonal symbols. Poinsettias were used as a centerpiece with lighted red tapers held in silver holders placed on either side.
    Soon after the reception the couple left for a short trip from which they returned late Friday afternoon. They will temporarily reside at 213 W. 15th Street.
    Wedding guests were Mr. and Mrs. Harvey L. Rix, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis B. Rix, Mr, and Mrs. Paul A. Rix and daughter, Carol, Mr. and Mrs. Randall Pickle and children, Joan and Don, Mrs. Ralph W. Rix, Miss Lucille Rix and Joe Pickle.
