Services for Mrs. Pearl Gertrude Bridges, 90. will be at 4 p.m. today in Hammons Funeral Home Chapel in Littlefield
with burial in Littlefield Memorial Park. Mrs. Bridges was dead on arrival Thursday at a Littlefield hospital following

Carl Houston Carson
OLTON — Funeral services for Carl Houston Carson, 48, of the Sunnyside community,
will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Sunnyside Baptist Church. The Rev. Mac Turner, pastor, and he Rev. M. 0- Durham
pastor of the Lubbock South Side Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Olton Cemetery Parsons
Funeral Home. Mr. Carson died Wednesday morning n the Veterans Administration Hospital n Fort Lyon, Colo. A farmer,
Mr. Carson was born In Holdenville, Okla., and moved to Sunnyside 16 years ago from Olton. He was a member of the
Sunnyside First Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Lillian: two sons, Charles,
a student at Texas Tech. and Carl of the family home; two daughters Mrs. Verna Louise George of Dimmitt and Miss
Resa Faye Carson of the home; his mother, Mrs. J L. Carson Sr. of Olton; three sisters, Mrs. A. H. Bilbrev of Graham
and Mrs. Jim Kemp and Mrs. Pauline Hornby, both of Olton; four brothers, Herschel, Raymon, Lee and Harrold, all

Services for Myron Douglas Hall, 79, will be at 2 p.m. today in the First United
Methodist Church in Littlefield with burial in Littlefield Memorial Park directed by Hammons Funeral Home. Hall

J M Machen
Olton Special Services for J. M "Murrie" Machen. 57, are set for 2:30 p.m. day in the First Baptist Church
of Olton with the Rev. John E. Lewis, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Olton Cemetery with Parsons Funeral
home in charge. Machen died about 11 am Friday in the Methodist Hospital following a brief illness. The Olton resident
was a native of Seymour, and had lived here 27 years. Machen was a farmer. He married the former Marie Chandler
in 1935 at Seymour. Machen was a member of the Valleyview Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, a son Deryl
of Olton, a daughter Mrs. Gayle Noll of Odessa, four brothers Ernest, Earl, and Glenn all of Seymour and Sid of
Brownfield. and three sisters, Mrs. Edna Worsham Allan of Brownfield, Mrs. Edith Kirk of Seagraves and Mrs. Frances
Portwood of 8817 48th St.. Lubbock; and four grandchildren. Sunday, April 15, 1973 Lubbock, Texas
Ebodio Perez
Ebodio Mendoza Perez, 44, of Olton died about 11a.m. Saturday in Littlefield Hospital where he had been a
patient since Wednesday. Services arc scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday in St. Peters Catholic Church here with the Rev.
Clarence Huber. pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Olton Cemetery directed by Parsons Funeral Home. Perez was
a farm worker and had been an Olton resident since 1957 He was a member, of the Catholic Church. Survivors include
his wife Amelia, and two daughters Virginia and Martha both of Olton, and his mother Evairsta Perez of Olton, four
brothers Fortunato, Manuel Jr, and Henry all of Olton, and Frankie of Earth and two sisters Mrs. Antonio Zamora

Elbert M. Smith
Funeral services for, Elbert M Smith,43, Lamb County farmer who died of accident
injuries at 7:02 p.m. Wednesday in Methodist Hospital in Lubbock, will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Olton
Baptist Church. The Rev. J. Henry Cox pastor of Olton Baptist Church, will officiate, assisted by C, A, Freeman,
'minister of Olton Church of Christ, The accident in which Smith was' fatally injured occurred about 5;50: p.m.
.near Olton, Smith was brought to Lubbock by an Olton ambulance, with a doctor and nurse administering plasma en
route and a Lubbock police car providing escort from Lubbock city limits. His late model car crashed into a utility
pole and overturned in a cotton field. He was taken to Olton Memorial Hospital and given first aid, then transferred
to Lubbock, Doctors said that Smith died of a crushed chest and severe spinal injury. The death brought the South
Plains traffic toll to 51 for the year. Smith's death was the fifth from motor vehicle, accidents this month. On
the corresponding date a year ago 76. persons had died in highway crashes. A year ago on Aug. 18 the Plains counted
the 18th victim in a month that was to see 23 die in auto mishaps. A Plainview truck driver who witnessed the crash
said that Smith, en route home on Highway 70 from Olton, apparently lost control of his car about two and one-half
miles west of Olton. The vehicle veered from the straight, surfaced roadway, sheared off a utility pole and
overturned. The victim, who was thrown from the car, was" 'believed to have been crushed by the demolished
auto. The trucker halted to see if Smith were hurt, then proceeded to Olton to call the ambulance. A highway patrolman
who investigated the crash reported that the impact and damage to the pole had shorted wires and caused temporary
interruption of several Olton telephone circuits. Smith, born in Grandfield, Okla., had farmed near Olton since
1930. His survivors include his wife, Bernice; a son, James, 5; parents, Mr. and Mrs. C, H, Smith: a sister, Mrs.
J. E. Huckabee, and three brothers, W. M„ Fred A. and Wayne D. Smith, all of Olton. Smith was born Oct, 31, l910
at Grandfield, Okla, He moved to Lamb County with his parents from Tipton, Okla,, in 1930. He served in the U,
S.. Army during World War II four years, being assigned to the European Theater of Operations nine months of that
time. He was a technical sergeant at time of his discharge. He and Miss Lots Bernice George were married Sept.
27, 1947 at Olton Burial will be at Littlefield Memorial Park under directions of Lemons Funeral home; Evening Journal | Lubbock, Texas | Thursday, August 19, 1954
