| MOORE, FANNIE It becomes our painful duty to chronicle the death of Mrs. Fannie Moore, the wife of J.L. Moore, of Flo, Tex., who died at her home, Saturday night, Jan. 13th, 1900, with pneumonia, and was buried in the Parker Cemetery the following afternoon. Mrs. Moore's maiden name was Boykin, she was the granddaughter of Old Uncle Jackey Boykin, deceased, once so well known and highly esteemed in this county. She was first married to Mr. Dyas with whom she lived until his death. Her second marriage was to J.L.Moore about 14 years ago. Mrs. Moore was about 40 years old and was not the mother of any children. She was highly esteemed by all who knew her and her death will be depl_ed in that community. Bridges of Buffalo were held June 10th 2004 at Stewart United Memorial Church, Buffalo, Texas with ev. Jerry Anderson and Craig Graham officiating. Burial followed in Buffalo Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Buffalo. Mrs. Bridges was born June 8, 1918 in Buffalo, TX to Benjamin Julius and Ina Inez Elaine Dubois Cadenhead. She passed away in Longview, Gregg Co., TX on June 16th, 2004, at the age of 86 years, 8 days. A lifelong resident of Buffalo, Mrs. bridges completed two years of college, worked for the State Department of Human Services and owned her own business, Bridges Insurance Agency. She was a past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Buffalo Chapter 157, a member of the Sam Raymond Burroughs Chapter 2445, united Daughters of the Confederancy, Colonel George Dashriell Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Leon County Genealogical Society (past president) and served as director of the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Bridges was a long time member of Stewart United Methodist Church in Buffalo where she enjoyed worship and fellowship with many friends and family members. Mrs. Bridges is survived by son, Dr. M.J. Brodges and wife, Marjorie of Buffalo, TX; daughters Carol Pearson and husband Henry, of Austin, TX, Barbara Huebner of Questa, NM, Billi Jo Peterson and husband Jerry, of White Bluff, TN, Geri Wink of Kilgore, TX, sister-in-laws Letha Stevens of Mission, TX, Annie Louise Bridges and Alice Bridges of Austin, TX and Effie Paper of Iowa; grandchildren John Pearsons, Lynn Rodriguez, Rodney Henson, Stephen Henson, J.J. Skowinski, Jodie Pearson, Spring Peterson, Benton Wink, Prentice Wink, and Nova King and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin J. Bridges Sr., a veteran of the U.S. Navy with the rank of Ensign; parents Ben and Izez Cadenhead and granddaughter Elizabeth Ann Bridges Miller. [Unknown Leon Co., TX newspaper. Transcribed by B. Wiesner] March 7, 1940 Mrs. Lizzie Way Buried At Nubbing Ridge Bro. J. B. Davis was called last Friday to the Nubbing Ridge Cemetery east of Centerville to hold the funeral of Mrs. Lizzie Way of that community. Mrs. Way was almost 46 years of age, lacking just nine days of living until her birthday. She was married to Tom Way January 8, 1918, and leaves one daughter, Mae Helen, age 14. She is survived also by her husband, two sisters, Olive Babb Williams and Ada Babb Williams. She joined the Methodist church at an early age. Bro. Davis says that this makes the fifteenth funeral service he has conducted since November 15, 1939. {Transcribed by Amber Cory-Long} Thursday, February 29, 1940 Funeral Services held for R. A. Hooper of Bedias Mr. R. A. Hooper died at his home hear Bedias Monday night, February 19th. Wednesday afternoon he was buried in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. H. E. Kelley of Huntsville. Mr. Hooper was 71 years of age and spent practically all his life in Leon and Madison counties. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. George McVey, Mrs. George Francis of Houston, Mrs. Tony Domeka of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and one son, Asa Hooper of Jennings, Louisiana. He is also survived by four brothers, A. L., H. L., B. F. and A. G. Hooper and one sister Mrs. Frank Keasner of Normangee. The Day of Undertaking Co. had charge of the funeral arrangements. {Transcribed by Amber Cory-Long} Thursday, February 8, 1940 One of Our Oldest Settlers Passes Away Ben F. Henry died Monday shortly after midnight at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nalcus Spikes. Mr. Henry was one of our oldest citizens, and had lived in and near here all his life. He was buried Monday afternoon in Hopewell Cemetery, after funeral services at the home of his daughter. Services were conducted by Bro. C. E. Bullock, assisted by Bro. R. V. Holleman. Mr. Henry was born in Leon county march 30, 1861, being at the time of his death nearly 79 years of age. He was married to Miss Susan Delpha Carpenter in 1882. Born to this union were ten children; three daughters and seven sons, all living and all except perhaps one who was sick and unable to come, present at the funeral. They are Mrs. Ada Snow, Mrs. Ida Hennard, Mrs. Nora Spikes, Barney, Bunk, Robert, J. B., all of this county, Bud of Tom Green county, Plomac and Walter of Houston. His aged wife still survives. One brother was from Corsicana. Mr. Henry leaves 36 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Mr. Henry united with the First Baptist church a few years ago. Quite a number of out of town guests were present at the funeral. {Transcribed by Amber Cory-Long} Thursday, February 22, 1940 Randall Lawson Buried at Plainview Tuesday R. Lawson died at his home in the Plainview community Monday, and was buried Tuesday afternoon in the Windsor, Plainview Cemetery. Rev. R. C. Wiggs of North Zulch conducted the services. Mr. Lawson was 84 years of age, and had lived in the Plainview community for about 40 years. He was born in Hunt County near Greenville. A member of a seven children, 6 boys and one girl, he was the last survivor. The father of L. C. Lawson, passing away some 15 years ago. Mr. Lawson leaves his wife and ten children living. The children are Mrs. Lillie McLain of Alto, Fred Lawson of North Zulch, Mrs. Zuma Hickman of Houston, Carson Lawson of Edge, Will Lawson of Plainview, Louis Lawson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, La Burtis Lawson of Madisonville, A. J. Lawson and the twins Laymond and Raymond who are at home. Mr. Lawson was a highly respected citizen, a man of usefulness and worth in his community. he was one of the early subscribers of The Star, and his name has been on our lost [list?] for many years. We lose a friend in his passing. {Transcribed by Amber Cory-Long} Old Citizen Dies Houston Post Special May 15, 1920 Normangee, Texas W. L. Murff, born 13 April 1842, aged 78 years died Friday Morning about 7:00 o'clock at the home of his daughter. Mrs. C. B. Hollis of Normangee. Mr. Murff was a member of the Methodist church's Royal Arch Mansion, and one of the Old-Landmarks of Leon County. His death came sudden, having helped center the Mark Master's degree upon a candidate at the R. A. chapel here last night and leaving the lodge room apparently in good health and even arising this morning and dressing only to die within a few minutes without warning. Mr. Murff is survived by five sons and five daughters, namely: C .R. Murff, Burnett Murff and Blake Murff of Mormangee. E. M. Murff of Goldwaite and W. D. Murff of Houston; Mrs. W. E. Feed and Mrs. J. R. Oglethorpe of Flynn, Mrs. Lem Speer of Milford, Mrs. D.A. Gregg of Austin and Mrs. C. B. Hollis of Normmangee.
