| Vessie V. Cook The Champion (Center, Shelby County, TX) - June 20-1917 - DEATH OF MISS VESSIE V. COOK Died, at the residence of the parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Cook of Center on Friday, June 15, at 11:30 a.m., Miss Vessie V. Cook. The funeral occured from the family home Saturday afternoon, the services being conducted by Rev. F.L. Hall, Pastor of the First Baptist Church and being attended by a large number of friends and relatives of the family. Interment at Fairview Cemetery. Deceased was 22 years and 10 months of age, a consecrated Christian, and while she was ill for a long time, she bore her suffering with a Christian fortitude. She was a member of the Baptist Church. Brothers of deceased, J.M. Cook, President of the Rusk Academy, and wife, and Lloyd Cook, also of Rusk, were here to attend the funeral. One brother, Nathan Cook, who was in Okolona, Arkansas, could not be reached in time to get here for the funeral. Other members of the family resided here and were at the funeral. Deceased had been confined to her room for a long time and while her death was not unepected by the family, it was nevertheless a shock to them and came sudden so far as any outward symptoms were concerned since she was getting along in the usual state. {Submitted by V.
