Thomas Cuthbertsen Trinity Advocate – 4 Jan. 1860 Another Old Texan Gone – It again becomes our melancholy duty to announce the death of another of the pioneer settlers of Texas , and one of our most useful and estimable citizens. Thomas Cuthbertsen Esq., died at his residence in this county, on Thursday the 29th of December last. Esqr. Cuthbertson emigrated to Texas at a very early day, and settled (we believe) in San Augustine county, where he remained, until 1844, or 1845, when he removed to and settled upon the place where he died. In all the relations he bore to society, he discharged with fidelity the duties devolving on him. Of him it may be truly said he was one of the noblest works of God, an honest and a patriotic man. He leaves a large family, and numerous friends and acquaintances to mourn his death. {Submitted by Marla Zwakman} Ed Chandler Palestine Daily Herald, February 24, 1904 WELL KNOWN HERE Deputy Sheriff Ed Chandler, who died at his home in Groveton, Trinity county, on Monday, was well known in this city, having been a frequent visitor to Palestine.
