Death at Bastrop
Bastrop. Tex., Aug. 4.—The city was much shocked and grieved yesterday by the death of Mr. A. J. Batts, which occurred at his saddler's shop on Main street at 11 o'clock. Apoplexy was presumably the cause. A good man In every sense of the word, he was much beloved and re- spected by all and will be sorely missed in social circles, in business, and in the church and Sabbath school. Funeral services by Rev. O. T. Hotchkiss and Masonic ceremonies attended his burial at 5 o'clock this afternoon.

Veteran Dead at Bastrop
Bastrop. Tex.. Sep. 7.—An interesting event In the history of this city was the death of Anton Jung last Friday afternoon.A native of Germany, he settled in Bastrop in the year 1855. He and his wife celebrated their silver wedding In 1865 and their golden wedding in 1890. Many hundred relatives and friends from near and far attended the funeral ceremonies, conducted by father P. M. Leonard. More old folks were present than ever before noted together here. It being estimated that nearly fifty persons between the ages of 66 and 86 were attendance.

Aged Man Killed by Train near Bastrop
BASTROP.Texas. Aug. 4.—John Tyler Reed. 78 years old. was struck by northbound Katy train No. 72 at Calvin Coal Mines, near Bastrop and killed instantly at 7:30 Tuesday morning. Mr. Reed's body was brought to Bastrop. His head was badly mashed and hisneck and both legs broken.Mr. Reed is survived by two daughters, Mrs. George Davis and Mrs. Marvin Davis, and two sons. Sayers and Mann Reed, all of Bastrop. The funeral will be Wednesday.

Orrin Crippen Dies at Bastrop County Home
LOCKHART, Texas, June 23.—
Orrin Crippen. born in New York City in 1836, died at his home near Upton in Bastrop (County Wednesday and will be buried in the Young Cemetery in Bastrop Courfty Thursday.
Mr. Crippen was a member of the convention that organized Caldwell County in 1848. He was a veteran of the Mexican War and served with distinction in both that war and the war between the States. He was married in 1852. Six children survive: Mrs. Lizzie Sanders, Wichita Fails; Sarah Quinton, Gonzales; W. P. Crippen, Lockhart; Mrs. Susan Hocutt, Smithville; Mrs. Ellen Gilliland, Bateman, and S. L. Crippen, Smithville. He has twenty-nine grandchildren, seventy great-grandchildren and twenty great-great-grandchildren. It is said that Mr. Crippen attributed his long life to the fact that for more than seventy-five years he slept on the front porch of his home, winter and summer.

W. J. Miley, 65, Mayor of Bastrop, is Dead
BASTROP, Texas, March 8 (Sp). W.J. Miley, 65, drug merchant and Mayor of Bastrop, died at his home here Tuesday morning. following a short illness. Funeral will be held Thursday.

W. J. Miley, Mayor of Bastrop, is Buried
BASTROP, Texas. March 11 (Sp). - Funeral services for W. J. Miley, 65. Mayor and druggist Bastrop, who died at his home here, were held from the family residence on Thursday afternoon with burial in Fairview Cemetery, the Rev. R. F.
Curl, pastor of the Methodist Church, and the Bastrop Eastern Star having charge of ,the services at the home and the Masonic rites being conferred at the grave by the Bastrop Lodge.
Mr. Miley had been engaged in in the drug business here for last forty-five years and had served the Mayor for a number of years. He was a member of the Methodist Church, the Odd Fellows and Masonic lodges and for the last ten years had been the worthy patron of the local Order of the Eastern Star. Besides his wife, he is survived by four children. S. R Miley of Tulsa. Ok.; C. H. Miley of Fort Worth. Mr. Sebastian of Georgia and Miss Helen Miley of Lufkin: one brother. J. H. Miley of Oklahoma City. All business houses were closed during the funeral hour

Holland Jenkins, Early Bastrop Citizen, Dies
BASTROP, Texas, Feb. 6 - One of Bastrop pioneer citizens, Holland Jenkins, died here at the home of his son. Hartford Jenkins. Tuesday For many years he was connected with the United States Government as special Chinese immigration agent which position he held to a few years ago, when his health failed him. He is survived by two sons and two daughters, T. L. Jenkins of Beaumont Haryford Jenkins of Bastrop, Mrs. J. L. Kirschner of Houston and Mrs. M. L. Crew of San Antonio, and one brother and sister. Joe Jenkins and Miss Ann Jenkins, both of this city.

Dallas Woman, Native of Bastrop, Dies at 84
SAN ANTONIO, Texas. Jan. 24 - Mrs. Florence C. Hooper, M, of Dallas, died in her hotel room Thursday. The body was sent to Austin, her former home, for burial Friday. Mrs. Hooper had been here five months. She was a
native of Bastrop and wife of the late Capt. J. A. Hooper, Confederate veteran and former San Antonio and Austin cotton compress man. Surviving are one son, Joseph E. Hooper of San Antonio, and one daughter, Mrs. Nina Sieves of Dallas.

Bastrop Banker Dies
Elgin Texas. April 17 (AP).—
Funeral services for John Barton Sr„ 77. former president of the Elgin State Bank and a director of the Citizens State Bank of Bastrop were held here Monday. Barton died in a hospital here Sunday.

Bastrop Rites Set for Smith Child
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon in Bastrop for Robert Wayne Smith, 6, who died Saturday in a Dallas hospital after being ran over by a car in the 2600 block of Oakland.
The boy was crossing to the east side of the street when he ran into the side of a car driven by Herman Crosby. 20, of 2606 Guillot. The boy was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gordon Smith of 2831 Grand.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Smith of Smithville, Bastrop County, and Mr. and Mrs.H. O. Barnes of Bastrop.
