THOUSANDS WITNESS A HANGING

Caldwell, Texas, July 15 – Cal Parks, a negro, was hanged at 1 p.m. today in the presence of 3,000 people. His neck was broken and he died in seven and a half minutes. On May 9 Parks murdered Mrs. Jessie McDonough and her 7 year old stepson at a section house on the Santa Fe road, after assaulting the woman.  (July 16, 1892, page 3, transcribed by Peggy Thompson)

A BRUTE HANGED IN TEXAS

Galveston, Tex., July 16 – A News special from Caldwell, Tex., says Cal Parks, negro, was hanged yesterday in the presence of 3,000 people. His neck was broken and he died in seven and a half minutes.

On May 9 of this year Parks murdered Mrs. Josie McDonough and her seven-year-old stepson at a section house on the Santa Fe road, and also outraged the woman.  ( July 17, 1892, page 2, transcribed by Peggy Thompson)
