PICKING JURY FOR TRIAL AT LOCKHART
Nine jurors remained to be chosen for the murder trial of Ed Swearington, overseas veteran and expert stenographer, when court recessed last night. Swearington is being tried for the murder of Carter Flowers, who was stabbed to death in a cafe here Christmas Day, 1927. Both Swearington and Flowers were born and reared in Lockhart and both served with distinction with Caldwell County troops in France. Flowers remained in the service after the war and was home on furlough when he was killed. The slaying was said to have resulted from a misunderstanding. [Victoria Advocate, Jan. 2, 1929, transcribed by, Amanda Jowers]ANDREWS - Lockhart Tex. July 14 Yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock C.W. Andrews died at the home of his son, R. M. Andrews, in Lockhart. He was a confederate veteran and for some time had been an inmate of the Confederate Home at Austin.
