HENRY JOHNSON'S TRIAL

Negro at Kaufman will face A Court and Jury Today on Charge of Criminal Assault

Special to the News.

Kaufman, Tex., May 28 - Henry Johnson will be placed on trial here tomorrow on the charge of criminal assault. Johnson is the negro who was arrested, riddled with shot, after an assault had been made on the person of Mrs. Jennie Whitworth, in the Kemp neighborhood last Monday.

Johnson has, it is stated, waived all rights that he may have under the law, and in the event of conviction is willing that sentence be executed without delay. For this reason there is a belief here today that immediately following the trial, if he is convicted, the hanging will take place.

There is absolutely no excitement here today. Everything has been very quiet. It is quite probable, however, that there will be a large crowd on hand to attend the trial tomorrow morning. (May 29, 1903, page 2)
