Graveside services for Bertha Mae Nordin, 95, of Mabank will be held at 2pm, Friday, March 15, in Pleasant Grove North Cemetery with the Rev. Dan Hamiter officiating. No formal visitation is planned. She was born June 30, 1900, in Hopkins County, the daughter of William T and Laura Boss Kenemore. She married John E. Nordin on Nov 19, 1917, in Sulphur Springs. He preceded her in death in August 1970. Mrs. Nordin was a homemaker. Survivors include a son, Thomas Nordin of Mabank; a daughter, Ladell Moffitt of Mabank; two brothers, John Kenemore and Buck Kenemore both of Kingman, Ariz; a sister, Nancy Jones of Kingman, Ariz; 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. John Ethridge Nordin, 1115 Lawton Drive, Dallas died Wednesday in Dallas. Final rites will be held at 11am, Saturday at Murray Orwesky Funeral Home with the Rev Findley Quattlebaum officiating and interment following at the Pleasant Grove cemetery. Grandchildren will serve as pall bearers. Mr. Nordin who was married to Bertha Kenemore on Nov 24, 1917 in Sulphur Springs was born Aug 5, 1898 in Tennessee son of Mr and Mrs Martin Nordin. Survivors include his wife of Dallas, three sons, Grady, John Jr and Thomas Nordin all of Arizona, two daughters Mrs. Berthe Sterling and Mrs. Ladell Moffitt both of Dallas, 18 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Mrs. Dora Hill Rice of Kemp, Texas died August 31, 1968 in Dallas, Texas at the age of 93. Mrs. Rice was born January 31, 1875 three miles south of Courtland, Alabama to Leland and Missouri Holland Hill. She was the granddaughter of Thomas Jefferson and Sarah Graham Holland.
Her great grandparents, Jeremiah and Mahala Langston Holland, were among the first settlers in Lawrence County. They were South Carolinians and from Revolutionary stock. Mrs. Rice left Alabama as a young girl of then to make her home in Texas with her parents. There she met and married the late Mr. John Rice. They were parents of five daughters.Mrs. Rice made numerous trips back to Alabama to visit her relatives. She was a niece of the late Jerry Holland of Moulton and visited his home whenever she returned to Alabama. She was also a niece of the late Mrs. Mary White and the late Jourd White, Editor of the Moulton Advertiser, and the late Mrs. Sallie Thompson of Hillsboro.
Mrs. Rice always made the trip to Alabama or Mississippi for the Holland Family reunions and boasted to her age and the distance she had traveled to be with her family. She made her last trip to Alabama in May 1965 with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. & Mrs. David Pruitt of Dallas, Texas. They were guests in the home of Mrs. Rice's cousin, Graham Thompson and Mrs. Thompson, of Hillsboro whose farm is a part of the land first settled on by the Hollands in the early 1800's.
Mrs. Rice lived alone in her family home and did all her work until about a year before her death when failing health forced her to close her home and move to Dallas with her daughters. She was a devout Christian and a member of the Church of Christ. He devotion to God and her family influenced all those who knew her. The world was made a better place by having been blessed with the life of Mrs. Dora Hill Rice. Funeral N. C. Hosch Sunday Afternoon
The funeral of N. C. Hosch veteran railroad man who died at his home, 101 San Jacinto street, Friday morning will be held Sunday afternoon at the Anderson-Clayton funeral home at 3 o'clock. Internment will follow at Oakland Memorial park, with the Masons having charge of the services at the graveside. Mr. Hosch held a life membership in the Irving Texas Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Hosch is survived by the following: his widow, three sons Phil Hosch of New Orleans, Frank Hosch of Olympia, Washington, and Dell Hosch of the U. S Navy on submarine duty, two daughters: Mrs Fay Putnam and Mrs. Theo Guest of Olympia, Washington; one brother, Henry Hosch of Sheldton, Iowa; one sister, Mrs Mae Chute of Berkley, California.Ben F. Stellenwerck, W. M. of the local lodge and O. O. Morris secretary have issued a call for local Masons to meet promptly at 2 pm Sunday to attend the funeral.
