Temperance Celebration
Wednesday was a proud night for the lovers of temperance, and was properly celebrated by the Social Degree and Good Samaritans. The procession and addresses of the evening made the occasion one of interest and imposing in the extreme. Miss Sallie Everett made a chaste and beautiful little address, which elicited the attention and applause of vast auditory. Messrs. Gammage and Angell were the other speakers of the evening and acquitted themselves with credit. L.B. Ward, of Alto, responded to call, and read a temperance poem of much interest, written after the legendary style of the celebrated Hiawatha, of Longfellow.

Tribute of Respect.
At a regular meeting of the Larissa Temple of Honor No. 2, the following Preamble and Resolutions were unanimously adopted. Whereas, the Dispenser of all good, has seen fit in his infinite wisdom to remove from our midst, our worthy brother T.A.G. Wallace, and transplant him, as we humbly trust, to that grand Temple in the skies, not made with hands; therefore Resolved, That in the death of said brother, this Temple sustains a loss which will long be felt by its members.  Resolved, That as a companion he was mild and agreeable; as a husband, tender and affectionate; as a father, indulgent; and in all the relations of life, upright and gentlemanly.  Resolved, That this Temple tender to the family and friends of the deceased, their most cordial sympathies in this sore bereavement. resolved, That the members of this Temple wear the usual badge of mourning for the space of thirty days. Resolved, That the Secretary be directed to transmit to the family of the deceased, a copy of the foregoing Preamble and Resolutions, and also to forward to the Sentinel and Enquirer, copies of the same, with a request that they be published.
G.W. Matthews, Secretary. Larissa, May 9th, 1856.

At a called meeting of Larissa Lodge No. 57, of Free and Accepted Masons, the following Preamble and Resolutions were unanimously adopted: Whereas, It hath pleased an All-wise Providence to call from the scenes of his active labors and sufferings here below, our esteemed brother, T.A.G. Wallace, to that “bourne whence no traveler returns;” therefore Resolved, That Larissa Lodge, No. 57, feels sincerely the loss she has sustained in the death of said brother, and deeply deplores that he was cut down in the prime of life, and hurried away from all the tender relations of life, Resolved, That in the death of Brother Wallace, the Lodge has lost a worthy member, the Temple a warm advocate, the community a good citizen, the Church a consistent communicant, and his family their support, consoler and guide.
Resolved, That this Lodge offer to the family and friends of the deceased, their sincere condolence, and cordially commend them to the care and protection of Him, “who tempered the wind to the shorn lamb,” and who listens to the sighs of the orphan, and sooths the sorrows of the widow.  Resolved, That this Lodge wear the usual badge of mourning for the space of thirty days. resolved, That the Secretary be directed to transmit a copy of the foregoing Preamble and Resolutions to the family of the deceased, and that the Cherokee Sentinel and Texas Enquirer, be requested to publish the same. G.W. lane, Secretary. Larissa, May 9th, 1856.
