Byron Herring
MERCEDES YOUTH KILLED IN WRECK
Mercedes, Tex. Jan 2 -- Byron Herring, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Herring of this city, was killed almost instantly on the highway near here last night when his automobile and another collided. Young Herring was driving a light car, and it overturned when the two came together, the youth suffering a broken neck as the car turned over. Almost a dozen automobiles were wrecked on the highways of the Valley last night. Wreckage being strewn along the road in almost all sections of the Valley.

           Raymond Roberson
         Remains of Raymond L. Roberson, mechanical engineer of McAllen, will be shipped to his home for burial.  He died here Saturday.  Besides his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. F.  Roberson of McAllen, the                deceased is survived by a sister, Mrs. Gus L. Kowalski, of Kingsville.

Patricia Ann "Patsy" Schwarz

MERCEDES, TEXAS - Patricia A. "Patsy" Whitefield Schwarz, who was born on November 24, 1934 in Corpus Christi, Texas went to be with lord on February 6, 1999 at the age of 64 years. A longtime resident of the Valley. She was married on August 22, 1959 and has resided in Mercedes for 40 years. Mrs. Schwarz graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas where she majored in music. She was a school teacher all her life, beginning in Corpus Christi in the 1950's and continuing in Mercedes for many years where she also taught Piano. She was a member of the P.E.O., Mercedes Music Club and the Delta Delta Delta Alumni. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Weslaco, where she participated in the Bell Choir and assisted with The Children's Music Ministry. Patricia Schwarz was the daughter of Powell O. Whitfield and Effie Elizabeth Hendricks, and she had a twin sister: Billie Joan Ross, all of whom have predeceased her. She is survived by her husband, Jack D. Schwarz, and their children: Debra L. Thomas (Jeff); John P. Schwarz (Jacqueline); Laura A. McCutchen (Chuck); Arthur R. "Randy" Schwarz (Angela); and Donald S. Schwarz. She also had nine grandchildren who were the joy of her life: Lesley A. Thomas, Scott A. Thomas, Cara R. Thomas, Jarrett V. Schwarz, Jillienne M. Schwarz, Janelle A. Schwarz, Logan W. McCutchen, Catherine E. Schwarz, and Rebecca L. Schwarz. She also leaves many beloved nieces, nephews, and close friends, as well as the many students whose lives she touched. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 7, 1999 at the Mc Caleb Funeral Home in Weslaco from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. Funeral Services for Mrs. Schwarz will be held on Monday, February 8, 1999 at 11:00 AM at The First Baptist Church of Weslaco, with David B. Eaton, III Associate Pastor officiating and Mary Jane Schwarz providing the music. Interment will follow at Ebony Grove Cemetery in Mercedes. Pallbearers will be Kirk Schwarz, R.L. Weatherford, Benny Cherry, Joe Molina, Gary Schwarz, and Charles Armstrong. Steve Freeman and Usvaldo Ascencio were selected as alternates.

Jack Donald Schwarz

MERCEDES, TX — Jack Donald Schwarz, 68, a lifelong farmer and resident of Mercedes, passed away January 4, 2003 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.
Jack was born March 12, 1934 in Mercedes, TX to Arthur E. and Billie Irene Schwarz. Jack attended and graduated from Mercedes High School in 1952 and in 1956 graduated from Baylor University with a B.B.A. Degree. After graduating college he served his country in the United States Air Force where he attained the rank of 2nd Lieutinant. Jack was very dedicated to his community, he served on the Mercedes I.S.D. School Board from 1968 to 1974, Past Rio Grande Valley Live Stock Show President and Manager, Deacon at the First Baptist Church of Mercedes and was voted Man of the Year in 1973 for the City of Mercedes.
Jack is survived by his children, Debra Thomas (Jeff) of Mesa, Arizona, John P. Schwarz (Jacquie) of Conroe, TX, Laura A. McCutchen (Chuck) of Mercedes, TX, Arthur (Randy) Schwarz of Conroe, TX and Donald Schwarz of Mercedes, TX, and ten grandchildren, Lesley Hedrick (Chris), Scott Thomas, Cara Thomas, Jarrett Schwarz, Jillienne Schwarz, Janelle Schwarz, Logan McCutchen, Patricia McCutchen, Catherine Schwarz and Rebecca Schwarz. Also surviving is a brother, Robert L. Schwarz (Bette Lu) of Mission, TX; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia A. Schwarz in 1999 and his parents, Arthur Edgar and Billie Irene McCaslin Schwarz.
Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Weslaco with the Reverend David B. Eaton, III and Reverend Dr. Jonathon Becker as the officiants and Mary Jane Schwarz will be providing the music for the service. Interment will follow at Ebony Grove Cemetery in Mercedes. Serving as pallbearers will be William C. Ross, III, Jarrett V. Schwarz, William A. Schwarz, Steve Freeman, Mike England, and Roger Van Burkleo. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Robert L. Schwarz, Robert L. Schwarz, II, William C. (Chap) Ross, IV, Kirk Schwarz, Carroll Lloyd Schwarz, Walt Waters, Charles Bertholf and Tom Mason.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco.
