Established in 1856, Cache County comprises the Cache Valley, up to the Idaho border, and the surrounding mountains.
The Bear River Mountains, the northernmost extension of the Wasatch Range, which reach as high as 10,000 feet,
cover the eastern half of the county. The Bear River flows through Cache Valley. Wellsville was the first settlement
made by caucasians in the county, settled by Peter Maughan in 1853.
It was named for the fur stashes made by many of the Rocky
Mountain Fur Company trappers. Its county seat and largest city is
Logan.
