BENNION, Heber Jr., 80 a former Utah secretary of state, legislator and educator, died of a heart attack September 10, 1968 at his ranch in Daggett County. Mr. Bennion served seven terms in the legislature and was speaker of the House in 1939. Mr. Bennion was secretary of state and served as chairman of the State Tax Commission and State Finance Commission. Mr. Bennion started the first high school in Daggett County, in 1937 he was appointed to the Educational Commission to a comprehensive survey of Utahs educational system. During his legislative career, Mr. Bennion servced as an ex-office member of the board of regents, University of Utah, and as a member of the board of trustees of the Utah State Aricultural College. In Daggett county, Mr. Bennion built up an extensive cattle and sheep ranching business. A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he filled a mission to Germany, was bishop of the Manila LDS Ward and a member of the Lyman Stake High Council. He was born Jan. 30, 1888, Pleasant Grove, Utah County, he was the son of Heber and Susan Winters Bennion. He was graduated from the Utah State Agricultural College (now Utah State University) in 1913 with a bachelor of science in agriculture. He later did graduate work at the University of Utah and the University of California at Berekely. He married Vera Weller in 1916 at Salt Lake City. He was a teacher and principal of Lehi High School. Surviving are his widow; three daughters and a son, Virginia Buchanan, Paris France; Dr. Don W. Bennion, Salt lake city; Peggy Papp, New York City; and Barbalyn Curry, Menlo Park, California. Two sisters and a brother also survive him, Sterling Bennion, Delta, Millard County Utah; Helen Barker and Mary Powell, both of Salt Lake City. Funeral services were held Saturday and Burial was in the Salt Lake City Cemetery
BOREN, Lonnie L.--- CENTERVILLE - Lonnie L. Boren, 87, passed away Friday, April 8, 2005. He was born June 9, 1917 in Whiterocks, Utah to Alma LeRoy Boren and Thelma Potter Boren. He was married to Vera May Peterson August 14, 1939 in Manila, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 66 years. They lived in Centerville for the past 33 years of their life. Dad worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 43 years. He loved fishing, hunting, and camping with his family. He was a member of the LDS church and served in numerous positions. He is survived by his wife, Vera; and their sons, Kenneth (Judy), Dean (Terry), Jerry (Margaret); 10 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Esther (Don) Larsen; brother, Farren Boren, and Carol. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Argie; and two sons, Lonnie and Larry. Funeral services will be held Wed-nesday, April 13, 2005, 11 a.m. at the Centerville 9th Ward building, 1475 North 50 East Centerville, Utah. CAMPBELL, Lilly June 80, died after a long struggle with Alzheimers disease. She was born April 25, 1925, in Linwood, Utah, to Vernon Nelson and Lily Twitchell. She married Gene Campbell on Aug. 22, 1942 in Green River. She is survived by three children, 14 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren She was preceded in death by her husband Gene; daughter, Gaylene; and two brothers, Jay and Joe Nelson. She enjoyed embroidery, decorating and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at the Manila Ward, Manila, Utah, at noon Wednesday, April 19, 2006. Family and friends may call one hour prior to services. Interment will follow at the Manila Cemetery She is survived by three children, Gary Gene and wife Carol Campbell, Bonnie Jo Jordan and husband Edward and Allen Ray and wife Mari Gean Campbell; 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. CHRISTENSEN, Bruce L. age 77, passed away Oct 14, 2004 in Provo, Utah. Born in Manila, Daggett Co., Utah, September 15, 1927, son of Leonard Erastus and Beulah Eleanor Larsen Christensen. Bruce was raised in West Los Angeles, where he attended UCLA, and later entered the Navy. When he returned to Utah, he attended BYU, where he met Patricia Kay Bickmore. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1949. After graduating from BYU, they moved to San Diego, CA, where Bruce started a successful dental laboratory, and the later became President of the Southern California Dental Association. They remained in California for 26 years, where they raised their four children, and also developed life long friendships. In 1976, the family returned to Provo. Bruce retired in 1994, allowing a dream to be fulfilled, and together he and Pat served a mission. They were called to the South Dakota, Rapid City Mission, where they worked with the Native Americans, whom they had always had a special fondness for. He was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in various callings, which included several bishoprics. His pride and joy were his children and grandchildren, but all of these passions were surpassed by his love of the Savior, and the gospel. Bruce was BYU's #1 sports fan. He loved swimming in the ocean, golfing, traveling and in his earlier years he was a star baseball pitcher. He is survived by his sweet wife Pat, whom he had just celebrated his 55 th anniversary with; two sons, Kent (MaryAnn) of Provo; Brian (Rita) of Springville; two daughters, Becky (Jack) Angus of Provo; and Shelly (Rick) Norton of Ramona, CA; 15 grandchildren and three great-grand-children. Also survived by a brother David Christensen and a sister, Joyce Christensen. He was a friend to all, and influenced many lives. He was much admired as a man of great integrity. He was always empathetic to the needs of other. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 18, 2004, at 11:00 a.m., in the Mojave Chapel, 3050 Mojave Lane, Provo. Friends may call Sunday evening, at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, from 6-8 p.m., or Monday morning, at the Ward Chapel, one hour prior to services. CHRISTENSEN---Ivy Dorothy Christensen Mayne, 80, died February 8, 1999 in American Fork. Born July 31, 1918 in Manila, Utah to Albert and Luella Bullock Christensen. She married Joseph Hindley Mayne, August 6, 1939 in Bingham Canyon and spent 59 and a half years together. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple, June 29, 1955. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served in auxiliaries as Relief Society president, Primary presidency, Visiting Teacher. She was a dedicated wife and devoted mother and grandmother, her family was first and foremost in her life. She is survived by one son and four daughters, Dalene (Barth) Smith, Spanish Fork; Ella Marie (Jim) Wudel, Mesa, Arizona; Gayla (Rondall) Morrill, American Fork; Kenneth (Karen) Mayne, Highland; and Carol (Lonie) Fisher, American Fork; 19 grandchildren and 20 great- grandchildren. Funeral Services will be Friday, February 12 at 11 a.m at the Pacific 1st Ward, 165 North 350 West, American Fork. HIBLER, Carol U--- GREEN RIVER -- Mass of Christian Burial for Green River resident Carol U. Hibler, 87, will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Green River by Fr. Tom Sheridan. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the church, with parish rosary recited at 7 p.m.; and again on Wednesday until service-time. She died Dec. 1, 2005, at Castle Rock Convalescent Center in Green River, after a brief illness. Born Jan. 9, 1918, in Buffalo, she was the daughter of Leora (Gebhart) and Mike A. Hakert; was raised and educated there; and graduated from high school in Hinkley, Minn., in 1936. On May 18, 1938, she married Howard O. Hibler in Buffalo. He preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 1985, in Rock Springs, after 47 years of marriage. She was a cook for Manila, Utah, High School and Green River High School until her retirement in 1983. A member of Immaculate Conception Church and the Council of Catholic Women, she enjoyed spending time with her family; reading; crocheting; and cooking. Survivors include her daughter, Lorraine Beck, and her husband of Green River; sister, NancyLee Beattie of Buffalo; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. JARVIE, Nellie Jarvie Nelson, age 77, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born November 15, 1924 in Rock Springs, WY, the daughter of Thomas and Alice Finch Jarvie. Nellie married Harold Nelson, April 21, 1942 in Green River, WY. They had four children, Diane, Larry, Boyd and Brad. She is survived by her three sons, Larry of Ogden; Boyd (Cherrie) of Roy; and Brad (Julie) of West Point; grandchildren, Natalie, Denise, Trisha, Angelina and Travis; sisters, Pamela and Ruth Jarvie of Manila, UT; and brothers, Douglas Jarvie of St. George; and Alonzo Jarvie of Mckinnon, WY. Preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter. The family would like to thank all her friends and medical care providers for their support, especially IHC Hospice. KNOWLDEN, Mildred Agness age 74, died May 6, 1995, in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Born October 28, 1920, in East Ely, Nevada, a daughter of Charles Park and Agnes Addison. Married Ronald Leslie Knowlden on October 2, 1937, in Salt Lake City; he died September 2, 1973. Millie was a past-president of VFW Auxiliary. Following her retirement, she lived in Manila, Utah, for 14 years. Survivors include a son and daughter, Ronald P. (Karen) Knowlden of Hunter, Ruth Marie (Roy "Buff") Mast of Sandy; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Marie (Don) Christensen of Manila. LAMB Fern Marie Lamb Greenhalgh Ferrero, 89, of 220 E. Third St., Green River, died Monday, May 26, 2008, at the Sage View Care Center where she had been a resident for the past six years. She was a longtime resident of Green River and Manila, Utah. She was born Sept. 28, 1918, in Linwood, Utah, the daughter of George Dewey Lamb and Josephine Isabel Mayer. She was the eldest of eight children. She attended schools in Manila and Ogden, Utah. She married John Elijah ?Jack? Greenhalgh in 1935. They later divorced. He preceded her in death on April 22, 1972. Their children were Gary Max Greenhalgh, Theresa Joy Greenhalgh, Sandra Joan Graham, Timothy Jon Greenhalgh, Ronald Kenneth Greenhalgh and Jeanne Marie Greenhalgh Ferrero. She married Dominick ?Snooks? Ferrero in 1946. He preceded her in death on July 26, 1983. Prior to retirement, she was employed as the director of the Daggett County Senior Citizen?s Center in Manila. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Survivors include two sons, Gary Max Greenhalgh and Ronald Kenneth Greenhalgh; two daughters, Sandra Joan Graham and Jeanne Marie Greenhalgh Ferrero; one brother, Keith Lamb; one sister, Nedra Burke; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; one daughter, Theresa Joy Greenhalgh; one son, Timothy Jon Greenhalgh; three brothers, Fay in infancy, Bert Lamb and James Lamb; and two sisters, Grace Mitchell Jones and Beverly ?Betty? Moss. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2008, at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs. LARSEN,Donald -- Funeral services for Donald Larsen were conducted on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at the Manila LDS Ward Chapel. Internment was in the Manila City Cemetery, Manila, Utah. Donald Larsen, 95, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, at his home in Washam. He was born March 15, 1911, in Lyman, the son of Joseph Edward Larsen and Mary Ellen McDonald. He attended schools in Lyman and graduated from Lyman High School with the class of 1929. After graduation, he was employed at the CCC camps at Sheep Creek in Daggett County, Utah. He married Esther Boren on April 2, 1938, in Manila. Bishop Cliff A. Christensen oversaw the ceremony. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Jan. 21, 1948. They moved to Urie, were he ranched for Ross Reed and later worked in the coal mines in Winton during World War II. In 1945, they moved to Manila, where he worked for Marion Campbell. He purchased a small farm in the Washam District in Sweetwater County. There he built a home for his family on the Henry's Fork. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as bishop of the Manila LDS Ward for 13 years. He worked as a custodian for the Manila Ward and Daggett School District. Coyne and Keith; six daughters, Duella, Mera Don, Margie, Renae, Ruth Ann and Blenda; 18 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sons, Darwin, Craig and Kerwin; five brothers; and one sister.
LARSEN,Helga R., 93, passed away October 3, 1999. Born September 14, 1906 in Linwood, Utah to Marius Niels and Elna Ronholt Larsen. She was educated in Salt Lake City schools and graduated from Holy Cross School of Nursing. she was a nurse in Cedars of Lebanon Hospital in Hollywood, Calif. Former member of the U.S. Army Nurses Corps, stationed in the Philippines. Public Health Nurse in Sheridan, Wyoming until her retirement. She then returned to Manila, Utah and her beloved "Cedarhurst" for many years. She is survived by a sister, Ebba (Thomas) Field-Fisher, London, England; nieces, Joyce Christensen, Kathy Littlewood, Karen Bruce; nephews, George Larsen, Bruce Christensen, Mike Larsen, Dave Larsen, and Ken Larsen. Preceded in death by parents, sisters, Margaret, Ruth, Beulah and brother, Max Norman (Sonny). Graveside services will be held Thursday, October 7, 1999 at 12 noon at the Manila City Cemetery in Manila, Daggette County, Utah. LARSEN, Muerl age 82, died peacefully in her sleep in Salt Lake City, with family at her side. Born October 17, 1911 in Manila, Utah. Married Max Norman (Sonny) Larsen October 7, 1933. He preceded her in death March 25, 1987. She will be remembered for her cheerful personality. She loved entertaining with music and poetry. Very active in her community and church in Manila, Utah. Volunteered for many organizations including many years for the American Cancer Society. Attended the University of Wyoming. Survivors include children: Mike (Karon), San Diego, Calif.; Dave (Carol), Danville, Kentucky; Karen (George) Bruce, Dugway, Utah; Kathy (Don) Littlewood, Ken (Bernie) Larsen, all Salt Lake City; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Pat Hanks, West Valley City; Afton Walker, Kemmerer, Wyo. LOWREY, Twila MANILA, Utah -- After cremation at the Vase White Mountain Crematory, a memorial service for Twila Lowrey, 84, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007 at the L.D.S. Chapel in Manila, Utah. She died Jan. 8, 2007 at the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County in Rock Springs. A lifelong resident of Manila, Utah, Mrs. Lowrey had been in ill health for the past several years. She was born on April 13, 1922 in Manila, Utah, the daughter of the late Don and Ethleen Searle Twitchell. She attended school in Manila, Utah and was a graduate of Manila High School with the class of 1940. She married Virgil Earl Lowrey in Green River on Oct. 1, 1949. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her interests included fishing, cooking and spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband of Manila, Utah; one son, Ron Lowrey and wife of Highlands Ranch, Colo., and one daughter, Janet Leflet and husband of Dutch John, Utah; one brother, Burl Twitchell and wife of Manila, Utah; one sister, Des Luke of Layton, Utah; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Lynn Lowrey.
MASTERS, William Rex, 95, of Escalante, Utah, died Jan. 21, 2006, in Cedar City, Utah. He was born Nov. 12, 1910, in Central City, Ky., to Ora Eldridge and Eliza Jane Slaten Masters. When he was 16, he moved to Linwood, Utah with his mother and stepfather, Albert Thompson. He graduated from Manila High School in 1933. Masters married Susie Anson on March 28, 1933. She preceded him in death on May 7, 1964. They had three children. He married Ray Reid on Jan. 21, 1965, and their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple June 10, 1966. They had 41 years together He was a heavy equipment operator most of his life and retired from Daggett County, Utah, as supervisor of roads. He enjoyed farming and cars. After retiring, he moved to Escalante, Utah, and enjoyed woodworking and sharing his creations with family and friends. Other interests included gardening and his yard. He also loved sports, especially basketball. Survivors include two daughters, Sheila and husband George Palmer and Linda and Tom Taliaferro; two stepsons, Vernon Hale and wife Janice Reid and Larry D. and wife Lorna Hale; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Susie; parents; son, James Ross Masters; and grandson, Thomas Seddon Taliaferro. Funeral services will take place Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at 1 p.m. in the Escalante Stake Center. NEILSON, Vernon "Bish", died Friday in a Salt Lake City hospital after a lingering illness. He was born April 21, 1916 to Oley and Ina Siler Neilson. He was an inspiration to some; almost totally blind, he attended for a time the School of the Blind in Salt Lake City. As a young man he lost a leg through a tragic accident, but he was always happy for the things that he had. He is survived by his Stepfather, Ernest Crosby of Manila, sisters Mrs. George (Eva) McWorter of Blackfoot, Idaho, Mrs. Lottie Jones of Priest River, Idaho, Mrs. Lonnie Crosby of Virginia. NELSON, Arthur Ira 87, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at his home in Ogden. Arthur was born in Manila, Utah in a log cabin with a dirt floor on April 26, 1917, the first child of Ira and Hattie N. Nelson. Art loved the mountains and knew every stream or lake there was. He and his brother Chet were inseparable and roamed the hills together. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and especially loved fly fishing. Art married Maryann Burnham in 1940 and they had two daughters. Maryann died in 1971. Art married Leona Coles in 1972. Leona died in 1998. Art was a paint contractor by trade and all would say he was a perfectionist at it. Looking for work during the depression, he would find something that paid at least $.50 cents a day. His family moved to Ogden around 1942 and during the winter months, Art would go to California or Arizona to find work. Art painted all the piers in San Francisco Bay one winter for $1.00 a day. In 1952, Art and his two brothers joined their father and became Ira Nelson and Sons Painting Contractors. They were well known and respected in Ogden. He was a good husband and father. His family loved him very much. The world has been a better place because of his example of service. When someone needed money, a train or plane ticket, or just needed a place to stay, he was there. If the shirt off his back was needed, he gave it willingly. His mind was very sharp and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved to hear the stories of his life, especially the ones about close calls with wild animals or hopping a fast train to town. What a horseshoe player he was in years past. He was the Utah State Champion and All Area Champion back in the 1960s. Surviving are two daughters, Shirley (Larry) Nye, Mountain Green, UT; Diane (Francis) Child, Syracuse, UT; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother and three sisters, Dean (Irene) Nelson, Barbara Bouy, and Dorothy Killian, all of Roy; Darla (Leonard) Cevering, Pleasant View. Art was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, and his brother, Chester. Funeral services will be held at the graveside on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Lindquists Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. A private family viewing will be held at Lindquists Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Tuesday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. (Standard-Examiner Ogden UT July14, 2004)
NELSON - Barbara Hattie Nelson Bouy, 85, passed away at home Saturday, December 10, 2005. She was born September 2, 1920 in Manila, Utah the daughter of Ira and Hattie Nelson. She grew up in Vernal, Utah where she met and fell in love with Ralph Leonard Bouy. They were married October 1, 1937 in Vernal and on June 8, 1959 their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they had five children. Mother will be greatly missed by family and friends who loved her dearly. She had a sparkle in her eye, a joke to tell, pranks to pull, and lots of love, hugs and kisses to give. We will always remember Mom's home cooked chicken and noodles, breads, rolls, periskies and candies. We will always cherish her quilts and handiwork. Mom loved adventure. She loved to ride and see the beauties of nature, and loved the great outdoors. She loved to camp, hunt and bagged a five point buck. Mom and Dad traveled extensively through Canada and into Alaska. Mom also traveled through most of the fifty states, Mexico, Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand and Europe. Mother loved the gospel and attended the temple regularly with Dad, and her sister Dorothy. She served as a visiting teacher, Relief Society counselor, homemaking leader, primary teacher and served for three years in the Roy North Stake Extraction program. Mother enjoyed being a member of DUP Camp Lakeview. Mother's sister, Dorothy, was her faithful companion who shared her home with Mom for the last 18 years. Mom's greatest joy was being with family, sharing their joys and accomplishments. Mother is survived by her sons, Louis (Glenda), Clinton; Dallas (Joyce), Vernal; Glen (Dorothy), Syracuse; and her daughters, Norma Bouy, North Ogden; Denise (Jim) Beecroft, Roy; 25 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Dean (Irene) Nelson; and two sisters, Dorothy Killian, Roy; and Darla (Leonard) Cevering, Pleasant View. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Art and Chester Nelson. NELSON Chester "Chet" B. - Our loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Chester "Chet" Bernett Nelson, 83, died Tuesday, January 1, 2002 at his home in Roy of causes incident to age. He was born October 2, 1918 in Manila, Utah, the son of Ira and Hattie Lillian Neigenfind Nelson. On June 28, 1938, Chet married Jana Loyd. They were later divorced. On June 22, 1949, he married Pearl Mae Watkins in Elko, Nevada. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on February 10, 1960. Pearl preceded him in death on February 23, 1985. He had lived in Manila and Vernal, Utah; Sheridan, Wyoming; Ogden; and in Roy for the past 49 years. Chet was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Navy. He was a self-employed painting contractor for over 60 years prior to his retirement. Chet enjoyed spending time with his family, the outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed country western music. Surviving are seven sons and four daughters, Chester Loyd (Shirley) Nelson, Warren; David A. (Anne) Nelson, Roy; Dale B. (Marilyn) Nelson, West Haven; Clair Dean (Cris) Nelson, Clearfield; Ronald L. (Kerry) Nelson, Syracuse; Steven L. (Tammy) Nelson, Clinton; Dennis C. (Donna) Nelson, Roy; Carol A. (Jerry) Campbell, Provo; Linda M. (Bryan) Wayment, Clinton; Carolyn (Thomas) Farrell, Layton; Marilyn (Kelly) Bodily, Clinton; 42 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. Chet is also survived by two brothers and three sisters, Arthur Nelson, Ogden; Eldon Dean (Irene) Nelson, Roy; Dorothy Killian, and Barbara Bouy, both of Roy; Darla (Leonard) Cevering, Pleasant View. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl, and his parents. NELSON Ervin R. A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, 1994, in Finley-Sunset Hills Mortuary. Mr. Nelson, a resident of Mesa, Ariz., died Dec. 25 at age 83. He was born Dec. 14, 1911, in Manila, Utah, and had lived in Portland 35 years. He was a bus driver for Tri-Met for 33 years. In 1975, he retired and moved to Mesa. Surviving are his wife, Alyce L.; son, Robert of Beaverton; daughter, Linda Corbin of Beaverton; brother, George of Salt Lake City; sisters, Elva Erickson and Vernalia Olsen, both of Lyman, Wyo.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. NELSON, Harold 77, died Friday, October 25, 1991 in an Ogden hospital. Born March 18, 1914 in Manila, Utah, a son of Daniel E. and Clara Neilson Nelson. He married Nellie Jarvie April 21, 1942 in Green River, Wyoming. Lived in Ogden since 1956. He worked as a rancher in Jackson, Wyoming, and as a burner for Ideal Basic Industries of Morgan, Utah. Army Veteran, World War II. Survived by wife, Ogden; three sons, Larry H. Nelson and Brad Nelson, both Ogden; Boyd C. Nelson, Kearns; four granddaughters. NELSON, Martha Rigby age 90, passed away June 23, 1998, in Orem, Utah. She was born April 15, 1908 in Fairview, Sanpete County, Utah, to Charles Martin Rigby and Sarah Emma Pritchett Rigby. She married Laurel Daniel Nelson August 8, 1931 and he died July 27, 1967. Martha was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one sister and four brothers. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Maurice (Emma) Smith, of Orem; one son, Lloyd Nelson, of Bountiful; two daughters, Mrs. Glen (Clela) Harris, of Orem; Mrs. Levi (Carlene) Reed, of Manila; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held Saturday, June 27, at 12 noon, in Manila, Daggett County, Utah, under the direction of Sundberg Olpin Mortuary. Burial will be in the Manila Cemetery. NEIGENFIND, Rudolph formerly a resident of Green River, but who for the past several years has resided with his family at Manila, died at the Wyoming General Hospital in Rock Springs last Sunday night, after an illness of several months, cause of death dropsy. The body was brought to this city, and taken to Manila Wednesday, where it will be laid to rest, Deceased leaves a wife and one son to mourn his departure form this life, who enjoy the sympathy of all in their hour of sorrow. OLSON, Sara Frances Harris, 99, of Manila, Utah, died Jan. 20, 2003, at the home of her daughter in Roosevelt, Utah. She was born Feb. 22, 1903, in Cumberland, Lincoln County WY, to Samuel and Elizabeth Morris Harris. The family moved to Evanston where she grew up and met her husband, J. Kent Olson. They were married June 4, 1927, in Coalville, Utah. They were sealed Sept. 7, 1928, in the temple in Salt Lake City. After living in Evanston a short time, they moved to Manila, where she and her husband raised their children on the Circle Bar Ranch. Mrs. Olson was a seamstress, homemaker and mother and wife. Her interests included gardening and reading. She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having many positions of service including Relief Society president and lesson leader as well as various primary and Sunday School callings. She is survived by 8 children, 64 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren, and one sister. She was preceded in death by her husband; nine brothers and sisters; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, in Manila at the LDS Chapel at noon where friends and family may gather one hour prior to the service for viewing. Burial will be in the Manila Cemetery.
PALLENSEN, Delbert 84, of Green River, died on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at Castle Rock Convalescent Center, Green River. A longtime resident of Green River and former resident of Manila, Utah, Pallesen died following a brief illness. He was born on July 29, 1919, in Manila, the son of Niels and Dora Pearson Pallesen. He attended schools in Manila, and graduated from the Manila High School with the class of 1937. He also attended Weber State College. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II He married Antonina Prozko in Augsburg, Germany, on Oct. 12, 1946. He was employed by FMC for 25 years and retired as a foreman in 1983, and was a self-employed rancher and farmer for many years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served as a Post Commander for Unit 2321, member of the American Legion, the National Rifle Association, and he was instrumental in the establishment of the Golden Hour Senior Citizens Center in Green River. He was associated with the Department of Agriculture ASCS. He is survived by his wife one son and one daughter, one grandchild and two great grand children. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mildred Copyak; and four brothers, Wilbur, William, Doral and Forrest Pallesen. Following cremation, a memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at the St. Johns Episcopal Church, 350 Mansface, Green River. The Rev. POLHAMUS Hazel Belle (Ward) died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, in Rock Springs. She was born Jan. 3, 1904, to Samuel Isham and Daisy (Mattinson) Ward in Payson, Utah. Her young life was one of frequent changes, as her father often traveled in his role of itinerant Presbyterian minister. Buckeye, Texas, Thermal, Calif., Coffeyville, Kan., and Brokenbow, Okla., were some of her childhood homes. Her mother died early, leaving Polhamus several years with her Aunt May and Uncle John David McGill of Enid, Okla. During the Depression years, she managed by working maid service in wealthy homes in the Chicago area. Later, she earned a bachelors degree from Park College of Parkville, Mo. The lure of the west pulled her to Ft. Collins, Colo., where she met Roy Polhamus, the man who later became her husband. While attending Colorado State University, she was an active member of their hiking club, climbing several Colorado peaks of over 14,000 feet in elevation. She and Roy were married in Cheyenne, WY in 1942. She began teaching in Parshall, Colo. Her conviction was that school children should not use foul language, and she was known to wash out with soap the mouths of those who did. Other classrooms were in Fraser and Tabernash, Colo., and Dutch John and Manila, Utah, where she retired in 1967. She then taught at Gillette. She was born before birth certificates were common, so needed to prove her age upon retirement time. Since her husband died in 1980, she has lived at the home of her daughter, in Green River, Wyoming where she had been active in the lives of her grandchildren Favorite activities included reading the Bible, exploring the areas sage-covered hills for fossils, painting outdoor scenes, teaching piano to her grandchildren, reading about the Creation, and traveling everywhere. She had an inquiring mind, and took delight in family get-togethers. She lived her Christian convictions and was happy to share The Gospel with others. Her church life was important to her. She is survived by four brothers and one sister, three daughters and one son and eleven grandchildren and seven great=grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Benjamin Lee Jimmy; and her husband, Roy. A viewing will begin at 10 a.m., Monday, Dec. 12, 2005, at the Rock Springs Christian Church, across from the new Rock Springs National Bank (corner of Second and A Streets) in Rock Springs. The funeral will be at 11 a.m., followed by lunch at the Christian Church. POTTER, Charles V ---Funeral services for Charles V. Potter, 70 year old Manila, Utah ranch man who died here in Rock Springs Friday February 4, 1944, were conducted at the L.D.S. chapel in Manila Monday with Cliff Christensen bishop officiating. Burial was at Manila under direction of Rogan Mortuary. He had lived in the Manila area for the past 40 years and is surived by his widow Hattie Potter of Manila. Four sons Orvel Potter of Manila, Ambrose Potter of Rock Springs, Cycil Potter of Green River and Gardner Potter living in California, two daughters Mrs. Thelma Boren of Green River, WY and Mrs. Casper Fox living in Nevada. REED, Kenneth P., Our beloved husband, father and grandfather passed from the loving arms of his family into the arms of his Heavenly Father on January 12, 2004. He was born April 17, 1910 in Elwood, Utah to John and Beatrice Reed. He married Myrtle Greenhalgh. She and her children preceded him in death. He married Norma Alvis. She and her son, Dale preceded him in death. Survived by two stepchildren, Boyd (Sondra) Alvis, Pleasant View; and Ruth (Hal) Seifert, Syracuse. On September 22, 1981 he married Erla Wilde. She and her three children Kay Norman, Diane (Robert) Cottle, Layton; and Lorin (Judy Kay) Wilde, Kaysville; survived him. Ken and Erla shared 22 wonderful years together and he was able to live his final years at home with a family that adored him. He lived much of his early life in Manila, Utah, where he owned and operated the first motel and cafe. He also served as Sheriff of Daggett County for 16 years. He loved to share the many stories of his time as sheriff with his grandchildren that consider him a hero. He left behind the example of hard work, honesty and generosity for his family. He is survived by his wife, stepchildren, 22 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving him are special nieces and nephews that were very dear to his heart. RASMUSSEN, George Funeral services were held October 19, 1962 honoring George Rasmussen, 86 year old pioneer of Linwood, Utah who died October 13 following a heart attack at the Sweetwater Memorial hospital in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Mr. Rasmussen for the past 53 years had been in the mercantile business and only last summer closed his Linwood store, due to the Flaming Gorge reservoir site which was to inundate his property. The government had purchased the site to make way for the reservoir. Mr. Rasmussen was born January 19, 1870 in Nebraska, remaining there until 1909 when he moved to Green River Wyoming. In 1925 Mr. Rasmussen was married to Minnie Crouse who survives him. Also surviving are a daughter Mrs. Mary Wadsworth and two grandchildren.
ROBINSON - Vera Robinson Smith, 90, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2002 in Ogden. She was born July 3, 1911 in Antelope, Utah, the second child of William James Robinson and Martha Eliza Moyes Robinson. She grew up in Manila, Utah, where she attended grade school and high school. She left home at age 17 and went to work for Dr. and Mrs. J.G. Wanner of Rock Springs, Wyoming. On May 31, 1934, she married Joseph Franklin Smith of Huntsville, Utah, in Dines, Wyoming. Vera lived all of her married (42 years) life in Green River, Wyoming, where Joe worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. She worked as a maid and a housekeeper at the Little America Motor Lodge west of Green River for 15 years. The last 19 years she has lived at St. Benedicts Manor in Ogden, UT. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she was a Primary Teacher in the Green River LDS Ward, and received an award from the LDS Church primary organization for 25 years of perfect attendance as a Primary Teacher. Also, she was the first secretary of the LDS Lyman Stake Genealogical Society when it was organized. She loved genealogical work and was involved in it for 50 years. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, the Union Pacific Railroad Carmen Auxiliary, and the Union Pacific Railroad Old Timer"s Club. She especially enjoyed being a member of the LDS Church Singing Mothers and participated with them in the Christmas Cantata and the Easter Cantata services each year. Vera"s favorite things were crocheting, knitting, and singing. Her favorite places are the mountains with the beautiful fall colors. Her favorite pet was her crochet hook. She wants her family and friends to remember her for being a hard worker, rendering service to other people, and making certain that her children received an education. She is survived by two sons, Ronald (Karen) Smith, Idaho Falls, ID; Dr. Joseph L. (Judy) Smith, Lewisburg, PA; two daughters, Debrajoe Beatty, Las Vegas, NV; Elizabeth (Ray) Baxter, Cheyenne, WY; and two sisters, Mildred Haslam, Vernal, UT; Harriett Angell, Salt Lake City, UT; 19 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Franklin Smith, three brothers, William, Fred, and Woodrow, and one sister, Lydia. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 2, at 12 noon at the Manila, UT LDS chapel. Friends may call Friday, February 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Leavitt"s Mortuary, 836 36th St., Ogden, and Saturday one hour prior at the church. RUBLE, Ivan Eugene, 82, died Feb. 28, 2006, of natural causes. He was born Dec. 17, 1923, in Green River, the son of Thomas Hayden and Eva Rebecca Currens Ruble. The family moved to Manila, Utah in 1933 and farmed there throughout his school years. In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served along the West Coast during World War II. In 1944, he met and married Mary Jane Yohey of Casper, WY. They were married April 23, 1944, in Ogden, Utah. He transferred to the U.S. Air Force in 1949 and served until his retirement in 1963. He played a part in the first aerial nonstop flight around the world with the Eleventh Air Refueling Squadron. He then moved his family to Manila, where he ranched until his death. In 1964 he began a career with the U.S. Forest Service. He served in recreation and law enforcement until his retirement in 1986. He served as the first EMT in Daggett County authorized by the U.S. Forest Service. He led, trained and managed the EMS and ambulance program prior to the states establishment of the EMT program used today. He was committed to the improvement of the county and dedicated many hours volunteering on various committees. He is survived by his wife and three children, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother and one sister. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; one sister; and one granddaughter, Katherine Suzanna Ruble. Services will be conducted Saturday, March 4, 2006, at the Manila LDS Chapel. Friends and family may call one hour prior to services. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Posts No. 11 and 124. STEINAKER, Elbert Joseph SR., our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away February 3, 2001 at the age of 101. Elbert was son of Joseph Steinaker and Emma Searle. He was born Jan 2, 1900 in Vernal, UT. Emma Searle passed away when Elbert was a child, and soon after his father remarried Maude Beeler. Maude raised Elbert along with his new brother, Bill Steinaker. As a boy, Elbert lived on the family ranch located in the small valley that is now the Steinaker Reservoir, near Vernal, UT. From this ranch the family relocated to another ranch near Lone Tree. In the 1930's Elbert moved to Manila, UT and started his own business -- a small trading store and pool hall where beer on tap could be purchased for five cents a glass. In the early 1930's Elbert met Hillis Helene Hill. They were married June 4, 1938. Elbert opened a new store, the Manila Trading Company, across the street from his house. The Steinaker business would soon grow to include the Steinaker Chevron, Steinaker Ice Company, and Steinaker Motel. During this time Elbert and Hillis had four children: Elbert Joseph Jr. (Punky), Dorothy Elaine (Elaine), John Randolph (Randy), and Bobbette Aline (Bobbie). In 1979, Elbert and Hillis sold the Manila Trading Company and retired. His wife, Hillis died in 1984. Elbert continued to live in his home under the care of his children. In 1996, his great-granddaughter became his permanent caregiver. Elbert always had a good sense of humor and was happiest when friends and family were around. Elbert is survived by his four children and their families: E;bert Jr. "Punky" and his wife Lenita Steinaker, Manila, UT; Elaine and her husband Ken Nash, Vernal, UT; Randy and his wife Mary, Manila, UT; and Bobbie and her husband Alfred Reich, Austin, TX; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great great-granddaughter. STEINAKER, Maude Beeler Searle Steinaker, 76 of Manila, died Wednesday August 27, 1958 at the Vernal rest home. Services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the Manila ward chapel. Friends may call at Vernal Mortuary Friday evening and at the Manila Ward chapel Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to time of services. Burial will be in the Manila cemetery. Mrs. Steinaker was born April 9, 1882 in Vernal, a daughter of William and Lucinda Jane Thompson Beeler. She was married to William T. Searle in 1901 in Vernal. He died in 1903. She married Joseph Steinaker in 1904 in Vernal. Mr. Stienaker lived in Steinaker Draw. STEINAKER, Joseph Anthony, age 94, former poneer cattle rancher of the Vernal area, died Saturday morning September 9, 1967 at the Sweetwater County Memorial Hospital in Rock Springs where he had been a patient overnight. He was born August 9, 1873 in Denver, Colorado, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Jacob Steinaker. When he was eight, his parents moved from Denver to Vernal and homesteaded the Steinaker Draw area. In 1899 he married Emma Searle of Vernal. She died in 1902. He married Maude Beeler in Vernal in 1904. The Steinaker family left the Vernal area in 1908 and moved to Lonetree, Wyoming where at various times Mr. Steinaker owned and operated three cattle ranches. In 1928 Mr. and Mrs. Steinaker made their home in Manila where he worked with his son Elbert to operate the Manila Trading Co. After the death of his second wife in 1958 he moved to Green River, Wyoming to live with his son Bill. While there he helped Bill deliver mail to the McKinnon and Manila areas. He had been in ill health for the past three years. He is survived by two sons, Elbert of Manila and Bill of Green River four grandchildren, Elbert Jr. of Manila, Randy of Vernal, Mrs. Elaine Rund and Bobette Steinaker of Manila. Funeral services were conducted Monday in Manila. Burial was in the Manila Cemetery.
SMITH, Anna Collett , 84, of died on Friday, April 1, 2005, at her home following a lengthy illness. She was born on March 8, 1921, in Vernal, Utah, the fourth child of Wiley S. and Erma Billings Collett. She attended schools in Lyman, Manila, Utah, McKinnon and Mountain View. She graduated from the Mountain View High School with the class of 1937. Mrs. Smith attended two years at the University of Wyoming where she received her teaching certificate in elementary education. She taught school for 36 years. She taught in Vernal, Utah, McKinnon, Manila and Bountiful, Utah, and retired in 1985. She married Daniel Alvin Smith on Dec. 22, 1941, in McKinnon. Their union was later sealed in the Salt Lake City, Utah, LDS Temple on June 12, 1966. He preceded her in death on Aug. 18, 1985. She is survived by three sons, two daughters, fifteen grandchildren, and twenty great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Don B. and Vene Collett; two sisters, Vella Jackman and Alice Slaugh; and one great-grandson, Bryan Robert Winslow Jr. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2005, at the LDS Fifth Ward Chapel, 250 N. 200 W., Vernal, Utah. Friends may call at the LDS Chapel from 11 a.m. until time of services. Interment will be in the Vernal City Cemetery.
SILER, Genevieve Eva Ruble ROCK SPRINGS Genevieve Eva Ruble Siler, 90, of 1804 Elk St. No. 166, Rock Springs, died Sunday, June 24, 2007, at Castle Rock Convalescent Center in Green River. A resident of Rock Springs for the past year and former resident of Hurricane, Utah, Mrs. Siler died following a brief illness. She was born Feb. 17, 1917, in Independence, Calif., the daughter of Thomas Hayden and Eva Rebecca Currens Ruble. She attended schools in Green River and Manila, Utah and was a 1949 graduate of Manila High School. She married Findlay Fernard Siler on Oct. 7, 1933, in Manila. He preceded her in death on Feb. 25, 1992. Her interests included painting, researching family history, crocheting and gardening She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Survivors include three sons, Jerry Siler and wife Mary, Hugh Siler and Clyde L. Siler, all of Green River; one daughter, Lorena Leora Siler Dow of Rock Springs; one brother, James S. Ruble of Manila; one sister-in-law, Mary Ruble of Manila; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; nine-great-great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son; one grandson; one great-grandson; one sister; and four brothers. Funeral services will be conducted at noon Friday, June 29, 2007, at the L.D.S. Chapel in Manila. Bishop Bruce E. Northcott will conduct the services. Interment will be in the Manila Cemetery.
TINKER, Genevieve Lillian Jarman Manila, UT - Genevieve Lillian Jarman Tinker, 79, died on Tuesday, November 6, 2001 at her home following a lengthy illness. She was born on September 14, 1922 in Wilson, Uintah County Utah, the daughter of Franklin Larsen and Nanna Vilate Wall Jarman. She married John Tinker on January 22, 1944 in Green River, Wyoming. Jennie was a member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Manila Ward and has served faithfully in many positions. She sacrificed her own wants and desires to provide love and care for her family. She shared her musical talents with the community by teaching many of the children piano lessons. Jennie loved her vegetable garden and spent many hours planting, harvesting, and canning. She and John never missed a chance to welcome anyone at their dinner table. She touched the hearts of all who knew her, and was the finest example of selfless service and Christlike love. Survivors include her husband, John of Manila, Utah; two sons, Glen Tinker and wife Betty and Bryan Tinker and wife Chris, all of Manila, Utah; two daughters, Luann Robinson and husband Tim and Lesa Asay and husband Randal all of Manila, Utah; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Grant Jarman and wife Ina Rae of Burley, Idaho, Clyde Jarman and wife Carolyn of Salt Lake City, Utah; two sisters, Esther Wilson and husband Ira of Burley, Idaho, Elsie Marie Wilson and husband Jesse of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho; one sister-in-law, Gladys Jarman of Vernal, Utah and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Ward Jarman, one son, John Gale Tinker and a daughter-in-law, Linda Sue Jamieson Tinker. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, November 10, 2001 at the Manila LDS Ward Chapel, Manila, Utah with Bishop Ross Catron officiating. TINKER, John MANILA, Utah John Tinker 90, of Manila, Utah died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007, surrounded by his family. He was born July 2, 1916, in Manila, the son of Fay Waters Tinker and Mary Elizabeth McCool Tinker, the second of five children. He married Genevieve Lillian Jarman on Jan. 22, 1944, in Green River. He spent his life as a rancher in Manila, being selected as Sweetwater County Cattleman of the Year in 1988. He dedicated 56 years developing and delivering irrigation water to the stockholders of Sheep Creek Irrigation. He was instrumental in the construction of the Longs Park Dam and Reservoir. John served many years as a supervisor of the Daggett Soil Conservation Board and 20 years on the Daggett Board of Education. He served six years as a board member of the Uintah Basin Area Vocational Center. In 1962, he was elected to the Utah House of Representatives where he served two terms. His interests included telling stories of past experiences. Survivors include two sons, Glen Tinker and wife Betty and Bryan Tinker and wife Jodi; two daughters, Luann Robinson and husband Tim and Lesa Asay and husband Randy, all of Manila; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one sister, Isabel Martin of Littleton, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fay and Mary; wife, Genevieve; brothers, James Tinker and Albert Tinker; a sister, Mary Ella Saeler; son, John Gale Tinker; and daughter-in-law, Linda Sue Jamison Tinker. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2007, at the Manila Ward Chapel. A viewing will be conducted one hour prior to services at the chapel. Burial will take place at the Manila Cemetery.
TURNER, Kenneth A. Turner, age 89, passed away June 9, 1995 at Cottonwood Hospital. Born July 7, 1906 in Francis, Kansas, to Rile and Maggie Crosby Turner. Married Christy Larsen; she passed away in 1980. Later married Beth Boggess Jensen, August 29, 1982. Former owner and operator of the Turner Inn Cafe in Manila. Former County Assessor for Daggett County. He could fix anything and built his cafe and his own home. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a great story teller. TWITCHELL, Ephraim Eldridge age 87, of Orem died May 2, 1993 in the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. He was born February 15, 1906 in Manila, Utah, the son of James E. and Louisa Wall Twitchell. He married Fern Park June 7, 1933 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He is survived by his wife of Orem; one son, James E. Twitchell of Provo; two sisters, Dora Rose of Delta, Utah and Della Twitchell of Provo. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 5, 1993 at 11 a.m. in the Berg Mortuary of Orem, 500 North State Street, Orem. TWITCHELL Gerald 87, of Lapoint, Utah, died at the Uintah Basin Medical Center of pneumonia and heart failure. He was born Nov. 12, 1917, in Manila, Utah, to Anciel and Jennie Herford Twitchell. He married Joy McGinnis on Nov. 17, 1941, in Rock Springs. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on Feb. 4, 1955. He worked for Morris Knudson, Inc., with heavy construction machinery on jobs in Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Nevada and California. He ended up in Wickenburg, Ariz., working for the state highway department where he retired. He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in various positions during his life. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, a nephew, eight grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the Lapoint LDS Chapel in Lapoint. A viewing will be from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the chapel on Wednesday morning. Burial will be in the Manila Cemetery in Manila, Utah. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joy; two daughters, Geraldine Sanders and Georgia Timberlake; a nephew, Fred Lowe; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. WARBY-- Fushia Marie Warby Barton passed through the veil Saturday, March 15, 2003 at the age of 89 at Rocky Mountain Care Center in Clearfield, Utah, where she resided for the past year. She was born Nov 20, 1913 to Samuel Warby and Mary Hannah Wilden in Manila, UT. She was the youngest of 13 children. Her family later moved to Bountiful, UT where she grew up. She graduated from Davis High School in Kaysville, UT. Fushia married Oscar Wendell (Bish) Barton in Elko, NV April 7, 1944. She is survived by her six children, Blaine (Bonnie) Bingham, Green River, WY, Shirleen (Fred) Pierce, Barbara (Larry) Brooks, Robert Wendell Barton, all in Layton, UT, Donna (Robert) Galloway, Ashton, ID, Vicki Lynn Peterson, Salt Lake City, UT; she has 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one special great great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, 12 brothers and sisters, and husband, who died in 1984. We would like to thank everyone at Rocky Mountain Care Center who gave the family their love and support. WARBY---Loretta Warby Doty, age 91, beloved mother and grandmother, returned to her heavenly home on Friday, February 12, 1999. Born January 31, 1908 in Manila, Utah to Samuel and mary Hannah Wilden Warby. Married Charles Arthur Doty October 26, 1927. He died June 20, 1950. Later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. A quiet unassuming lady with few needs, but always there, willing to share her time and talents with anyone who was in need of them. She worked for and retired from Beehive Clothing Mills. Loved going to the Senior Citizens Center where she learned to paint ceramics. Had a great love for crocheting many different things and delighted in giving them away to family and friends. Active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints all her life. In her later years was actively engaged in genealogical research and had made several interesting discoveries about her ancestry. But, most of all was her love of the little children. Greatly loved by her family and friends, she will be sorely missed by all that knew her. Survived by daughters, Leah June (Von Stanley) Adams, Nola Jean Park Buttars; daughter-in-law, Lucille A. Brown (Von); sister, Fushia Barton; eight grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 14 great great-grandchildren (one more expected very soon). Preceded in death by husband; son, Alden C. WALKER, Elma J. GREEN RIVER -- The funeral for Green River resident Elma J. Walker, 85, will be conducted at noon today, Feb. 2, in the Green River First and Third Ward Chapel, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Interment will be in Manila, Utah, Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service-time at the church. She died Jan. 30, 2006, at Castle Rock Convalescent Center in Green River, following a brief illness. Born July 9, 1920, in Washam, she was the daughter of Mable (McCarthy) and Frank Adamson; and was raised and educated there. On Dec. 20, 1936, she married Owen D. Walker in Manila. He preceded her in death in 2003, after 66 years of marriage. She was a self-employed rancher in Washam until the family moved to Green River. She then worked at the Desmond Motel. Her interests included quilting, crocheting, and reading. She loved her family and was a member of the LDS Church. Survivors include four sons, Dwain O. Walker and his wife of Puyallup, Wash., Lynn O. Walker of Roy, Utah, Dale G. Walker and his wife of Dumfries, Va., and Howard F. Walker and his wife of Green River; two daughters, Lela J. King and Ellen Smith and her husband of Green River; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Drell O. Walker; a sister, Elva Adamson Daughtery; two half-brothers, George and John Despain; a half-sister, Flora Cook; a daughter-in-law; and a son-in-law. WALKER, Darrell--- Funeral services were held Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. in the Manila ward LDS chapel for Darrell Walker, one year old baby of Mr. and Mrs. Owen Walker of Manila who was drowned in a canal near his home Monday afternoon. The child apparently crawled into the stream of water and had succumbed before it could be rescued by its grandfather Frank Adamson. Surviving are its father and mother Owen and Elma Adamson Walker, a twin brother Duaine, its grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George O. Walker of Vernal and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Adamson of Manila. WALKER, Owen D. 88, of Green River, died on Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at the Castle Rock Convalescent Center where he had been a resident for the past three months following a hip fracture. He was a resident of Green River for the past 34 years and former resident of Washam for 32 years. He was born on Nov. 12, 1914, in Vernal, Utah, the son of the late George O. Walker and Florence L. Winn Walker. He attended schools in Vernal. He married Elma Jane Adamson in Manila, Utah, on Dec. 20, 1936. He was employed at the Sweetwater County Road and Bridge Department for 32 years and retired on Dec. 31, 1980. Prior to that, he was a rancher in Washam for many years and sold the ranch in June of 1969. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His interests included caring for his yard, growing a large garden and feeding and watching the birds; playing baseball in his youth; and watching it in his later years. He is survived by his wife, four sons, two daughters, two brothers and a sister. He also is survived be thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Drell O. Walker; two brothers, Floyd Walker and Marvin Walker; one sister, Erma McConkie; one daughter-in-law, Kathie Walker; and one son-in-law, Mike King. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, at the Vase Flaming Gorge Chapel, 263 E. Flaming Gorge Way, Green River. Bishop Scott Peters will conduct the services. Interment will be in the Manila Cemetery in Manila, Utah. Friends may call at the chapel Wednesday morning one hour prior to services.
WALL, Peter Gurr--Services for Peter Gurr Wall, one of the oldest residents of Manila, who died at his home Thursday May 22, 1941 after an illness of several months, were conducted Sunday in the Manila Ward with Bishop Clifford A. Christensen in charge. Mr. Wall was born September 23, 1867 in Wallsburg Utah, son of William Madison and Susanna Gurr Wall. His father died when he was tow years old, when he with his mother and family moved to Sevier county Utah. In 1889 he married Francis Maud Nebeker of Sigurd. To them was born one daughter Dora Wall. They lived in Sigurd until 1901 when they moved to Manila, where Mr. Wall has been a prominent civic and church worker. He was instrumental in the creation of Daggett county. He was a member of the Sheep Creek Irrigation company for many years and was always interested in the affairs of the school being on the school board for several terms. About 1919 he moved from Daggett county to Green River Wyoming where he served as county commissioner for four years. In 1924 he he removed to Manila. He has served as a bishop of Manila Ward for 12 years. At the time of his death he was a member of the high council of Lyman Stake and a county commissioner of Daggett county. He is survived by his widow, five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, John Wall, of Wallsburg, four sisters Susan and Rose Davis, Temperance Boren of Wallsburg and Ruth Stewart of Gridey, California
WILLIAMS, Eleen T., 80, died Tuesday, April 9, 1996 in Salt Lake City. She was born May 31, 1915 in Salt Lake City to Hyrum and Janette Thompson. She spent her early years in Salt Lake. She attended West High School and graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in home economics. She moved to Manila, Utah to begin her career as a teacher, where she met Paul Williams. They were married April 15, 1939. She started a new career of rancher's wife, homemaker and mother. She also was Daggett County Clerk, principal and superintendent of the Daggett County School District. Postmaster of the Linwood post office until the water from the Flaming Gorge Reservoir would soon cover Linwood and their home. Their home was moved to Minnies Gap, Wyoming and Mrs. Williams became Dutch John's first postmaster. She retired in 1978 and began a new career as executive secretary of the Flaming Gorge Natural History Association where she worked until 1989. She spent her remaining years in Salt Lake City and Minnies Gap. She was president of Daggett County Historical Society and was on the board of the Flaming Gorge Natural History Association and Wasatch Cache Interpretive Association. She traveled extensively. Her hobbies were reading, crafts and history. She is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Larry (Barbara) Amburn of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Patrick (Pauleen) Baker of Minnies Gap; one son, Emmett Williams and wife, Vicky of Pocatello, Idaho; sister, Mrs. Martin (Melba) Larsen, and one brother, H.C. Thompson, both of Salt Lake City; five grandchildren, Paul Jones of Anchorage, Alaska; Monte Williams of Idaho City, Idaho; Mrs. Jerry (Mysti) Hovawath of Boise, Idaho; Travis and Jaris Baker of Minnies Gap; three great-grandsons, Brandon, Jeremy, and Nicholas Jonas of Anchorage. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 13, 1996, 11 a.m. in the Flaming Gorge Elementary School in Dutch John, Utah with viewing at 9:30 a.m. until services. Graveside service will follow in the Williams Cemetery at Minnies Gap.
YLINCHETA John Jr. , 72, of Washam, died on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, in Manila, Utah. He was a longtime resident of Manila. Ylincheta died following a lengthy illness. He was born on Sept. 21, 1931, in Linwood, Utah, the son of the late John and Anacita Ansotegui Ylincheta. He attended schools in Manila and Ogden, Utah, and graduated from the Ogden High School with the class of 1949. He married Mera Don Larsen in Las Vegas on Feb. 10, 1977. He was a self-employed truck driver and was the owner-operator of T-Bone LTD for many years. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Survivors include one son, David John Sikich and wife Carma of Draper, Utah; one daughter, Dawn Louise Sikich Wahlquist and husband Eric of Golden, Colo.; one brother, MacArthur Ylincheta and wife Jill of Vernal, Utah; sisters, Blanch Von Gyursy and husband Alex of St. George, Utah, Delores Terry and husband Jex; five grandchildren, Tyler, Austin and Madison Sikich, Caelen and Jameson Wahlquist; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Deborah Joan Sikich. Following cremation, a memorial luncheon will be announced at a later date.
ZOHNER Doris Rae Lavender, 72, of Manila, Utah, died May 13, 2003, at the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County in Rock Springs, after a short illness. She was born May 13, 1930, in Sparks, Nev., the daughter of William Ray and Fay E. Konold Lavender. She married Lewis F. Zohner on Aug. 23, 1952, in Magna, Utah. She had been a resident of Manila since 1971 after moving from Magna. Her interests were oil painting, knitting and reading. She was a member of the Manila Grace Community Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, and one son, both of Manila; one sister, one sister and one brother. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Terry Zohner; and one brother, Clyde William Bill Lavender. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2003, at the Manila Cemetery in Manila, Utah.
