Yesterday, the alleged “Ben
Butler” was taken before Judge Dee and tried upon two charges of petty
larceny, the former charge of grand larcenty having been
withdrawn. He was found guilty on both counts, and was sentenced
on the first to six months imprisonment, and on the second to four
months.
He will, therefore, remain in
limbo for ten months, at the expiration of which time, it is to be hoped
he will turn over a new leaf, for he will doubtless be willing to forget
the past.
Richard Hull was
arraigned on the charge of drunkenness and was fined $10. Being
unable to furnish that number of ducats he was remanded to the care of
the City Jailor, and will beautify the alrects for that number of
days.
Simeon Sammons was yesterday taken before Judge Dee on a
charge of drunkenness, having been found on the streets in an extremely
intoxicated condition. He was fined ten dollars which he paid, and
departed in peace.
