YOUNGEST Q. M., OF CIVIL WAR IS DEAD
BENNINGTON,
Vt., May 12 .—Henry T. Cushman, believed to have been the youngest
quartermaster in the Federal army during the Civil war, died here
yesterday. He was 77 years old.
Following the Battle of the
Wilderness he served as a staff officer and while on scout duty at
night engaged in personal combat with Col. John S. Mosby, famous
raider. The two officers met in Washington after the war and discussed
their midnight meeting.
