JAMES HAMILTON
James Hamilton was born in Accomack Co VA about 1710. He was the son of a well-known Philadelphia lawyer named Andrew Hamilton. He was a prominent lawyer and governmental figure in colonial Philadephia and the state of Pennsylvania.
He was educated in both England and Philadelphia before becoming a practicing lawyer in 1731. When his father resigned from teh Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in 1733, he was appointed in his place. In 1745 he was elected to the provincial assembly in 1745 and re-elected five times. He was the Mayor of Philadephia from 1745-6. James Hamilton, in 1746, became a member of the Provincial Council. He was commissioned by the sons of William Penn to be lieutenant-governor and he served as that until 1754, and also 1759-1763, and 1771-1773.
James Hamilton served as president of the board of trustees of the University of Pennsylvania when it was called the College of Pennsylvania. He was also the head of the American Philosophical Society.

JAMES HENRY
James Henry was an American Lawyer from Virginia, a delegate to the Continental Congress, who was born in 1731 in Scotland. He moved to Philadelphia at an early age where he studied law. He later settled on the eastern shore of Virginia. He became a member of the State Legislature after the declaration of independence. He was appointed a judge of the Court of Appeals in 1779. He was elected to the Congress on December 17, 1779, for the first time. He didn't enter congress until April of 1780. He never attended any other sessions even though he was elected again in the next year.
