John Loup

FINCASTLE, VA., February 12. – Mr. John Loup, who resided near this place, fell in the snow while going to the woodyard on Saturday, and died of heart failure.

Mr. Loup was about sixty years of age, and was regarded as one of our best citizens. He leaves a widow, who has been afflicted for a number of years, and will most sadly feel the loss of her best earthly friend.

Stover, Lewis F.
A Shocking Occurrence
On the 25th Jan. Lewis F., a child about 14 months old, the son of Capt. Mathias Stover, near the Botetourt Springs, Virginia, a play with his brother Charles about two years old, wandered within the circle of a bark mill near the house, while the manager had stept out, and by some means not distinctly known, poor Lewis got thrown down by the horse, or fell across the pathway of the bark breaker – a stone that at least weighted 1500 pounds; which rolled over his breast.  Charles screamed and sprang before the horse and prevented its passing over him the second time; his alarm was heard by a little girl near, who ran to the spot and took up the child a lifeless corpse.
