BBEINHORN, RUTH
Ruth Muriel Schwartz Beinhorn, 90, of Grundy,
VA, passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at her home following an
extended illness. Born in Tigerton, Wisconsin, she was a daughter
of the ltate Harris and Fannie Ginsburg Schwartz. Mrs. Beinhorn
was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, receiving her Bachelor
of Science Degree, attended School for Interior Design, Miami, Fla.,
studied at Florida International University, and a Professional Member
of the American Society of Interior Designers. She taught classes
in Continuing Adult Education at Southwest Virginia Community College,
and did extensive work in her field for 31 years. She came to
Grundy as a bride in 1936, where the Beinhorn family owned and operated
B & L Maytag Furniture Company in Grundy for 66 years where she
served as Vice President. She was a recipient of the Paul Harris
award by the International Rotary Foundation, both her husband, Sam and
son, Jeffrey, were previous recipients. Mrs. Beinhorn was a
well-known interior designer. She was the last surviving member
of her immediate family. Mrs. Beinhorn was preceded in death by her
husband, Sam Beinhorn on May 6, 2002 and by her son, Jeffery Beinhorn
on November 26, 1999, one sister, Mrs. Hermon (Idella) Kroger, and two
brothers, Jules Schwartz and John Schwartz. She is survived by
two nieces, Hollye Kroger of Chicago, Illinois and Mickey Unterberger
of Colorado. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 26,
2004 at 1 p.m. at Mountain Rest Mausoleum Chapel at Mountain Valley
Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA with Evg. Michael Trent officiating with
entombment to follow. Active Pallberrers: Henry Farmer II, Grand
Shrader, Shea Shrader, George Yates, Roger Pwers, Joey Yates, Mark
Ratliff, Kevin Lyall, Jeff Easterling, Jeff Thomas, Scott Mullins, Tim
Ward and Chester Yates. Honorary Pallbearers: Jim Headley, Dr. D.
Pate, Members of Grundy Rotary Club, Dr. Charles King, Carl Puckett,
E.M. Cicil, Dr. Gene Bane, Ladies of B & L Maytag: Amanda Elkins,
Carolyn Stilner, Lucy Yates, Sandy Riffe, Norma Looney, Carlotte
Matney, and special caregivers: Linda Osborn, Melissa Stacy, Crystal
Sutherland, Lois Griffey, Merley Rowe and Wanda Stiltner. Friends
may call at the Mountain Rest Mausoleum Chapel, Big Rock VA., Friday at
1 p.m. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be made
in the form of donations to Southwest Virginia Community College
Education Foundation - Jeffery Beinhorn Scholarship, P.O. Box SVCC,
Richlands, VA 24621. Grundy Funeral Home of Grundy is in charge

PRESLEY, EMIL ETHAN
VANSANT- Emil Ethan Presley, 46, of Vansant, died Thursday July 13,
2006 in Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy. Born in Tazewell Co,
he was a son of Howell and Gola Hale Presley. He was a mining
equipment welder and was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to his
parents, he is survivied by one sister, Justina (Freddie) Fuller of
Vansant; one nephew, Jimmy Fuller; one niece, Lana (Lucian) Reed;
fiance Lora Gilbert; daughter Cassandra (Bill) Lester; grandson, Payton
Lester; three uncles, Matawaska Presley, Herbert Hale and Carl Hale;
three aunts, Juanita Tiller, Draper Street and Lee Ora Newton; and four
grand-nieces. Services were held Sunday, July 16, at Haysi
Funeral Home with Elders Franklin Viers, Bob Arrington and Garnell
Gilbert officiating. Burial followed in the Presley Cemetery at
Vansant. Pallbearers were Rick Hale, Roger Hale, Michael Newton,
palmer Lockhart, Tim Ratliff, Keithel Breeding, and Jeff Ray.
Honorary pallbearers were Clinton Barton, Denton Barton, Linton Deel,
Timmy Ratliff, Jr., J.C. Hale, Wayne Hale, Shawn Deel and Jason
Jackson. Haysi Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

RATLIFF, JERRY RANDALL
COUNCIL-Jerry Randall Ratliff, 50, of Council, died Thursday, January
January 05, 2006, in Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy. Born in
Council, he was a son of the late Luther Eulis and Ruth Johnson
Ratliff. He had spent most of his life in Ohio and was a
carpenter, coal miner, landscaper and musician. In addition to
his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Eulis Ratliff,
and one infant sister, Joyce Ratliff. He is survived by three
sons, Dwayne Lykins, Cody Ratliff and Jared Ratliff, all of West
Liberty, KY; four brothers, Benny Ratliff and Tim Ratliff, both of
Council, Guy Ratliff of Springfield, OH and Pete Ratliff of Fairborn,
OH; four sisters, Linda Tiller of Honaker, Mildred Boyd of Bee, Louis
Bourne of Fairborn OH and Wanda Hornback of Beaver Creek, OH; several
nieces and nephews. Services were held Saturday in Honaker with
the Revs Roy Lee Wilson and Jerry Counts officiating. Internment
followed in the Johnson Cemetery on Combs Ridge. Submitted by a
