Blakenship, Mrs. Rachel M. (nee Hunter)

In memoriam – Mrs. Rachel M. Blakenship (nee Hunter). She was born in Campbell., Va. May 19, 1804. At age 15 went to Alabama; at age 24 married Mr. Blankenship, who died in 1853; she moved to Fayette Co., Tenn, and then to Montgomery Co., Mo. She died July 17, at home of son in St. Charles, F. N. Blankenship. She was a Methodist. Survived by a brother, Albert G. Hunter. Burial was ar “Camp Branch”, Pendleton, Mo.

Brittle, Mrs. Sallie 

LYNCHBURG, VA., Sept. 30. – Mrs. Sallie Brittle died Wednesday at her home at Shipman, Nelson County, where her brother, John Stickland, died on September 7.

Collins, Mrs. Ida V. 

LYNCHBURG, VA., Sept. 30. – Mrs. Ida V. Collins, widow of Charles Jewett Collins, died Thursday in Glastonburg, Conn. Her body is to be brought here for burial.

Daniel, Mrs. Bettie Mays 

LYNCHBURG, VA., December 23. -  Mrs. Bettie Mays Daniel, thirty-one, died Friday in Brookneal and her body was brought her for burial. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Mays, Lynchburg; a child, Walter Daniel and two brothers, Harry C. Houston, Mitchell and Clinton Mays, Lynchburg.

Davidson, Miss Lula 

LYNCHBURG, VA., December 23. – Miss Lula Davidson, aged nineteen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Davidson, died Wednesday at Brookneal of pneumonia following influenza.

LYNCHBURG, VA., December 23. – C. W. Elder, aged twenty-nine, died Friday at his home near Crosby of influenza. His wife and three small children survive.

Elder, John Matthews 

LYNCHBURG, VA., Sept. 30. – John Matthews Elder, of Brookneal, died Thursday afternoon at a local hospital, aged 49 years. He is survived by his wife. His body was taken home for burial.

Elliott, Mrs, W. S. 

LYNCHBURG, VA., December 23. – Mrs. W. S. Elliott, of South Boston, aged thirty-five years, died at the Home and Retreat here Saturday afternoon of pneumonia following influenza. Her husband is desperately ill of the same trouble at the same hospital.

Eubank, Thomas J. 

LYNCHBURG, VA., October 7. -  Thomas J. Eubank, aged fifty-nine years, who lived at 1719 Elm Avenue, died at the Lynchburg Hospital on Wednesday night. His death was due to pneumonia.

Farrar, C. R. 

Lynchburg, Va., July 23. – Word has been received here of the death at Pamplin of C. R. Farrar, who had long been ill. Among his ten children are Mrs. B. B. Williams and Miss Prudence Farrar, of this city. All of the children were at home at the time of Mr. Farrar’s death.

Gibson, Miss Adocia Ann 

LYNCHBURG, VA., May 14. – The body of Miss Adocia Ann Gibson, eighty-five years of age, a native and long time resident of Buckingham County, who died Sunday at Asheville, N. C., was brought here Monday for burial.

LYNCHBURG, VA., October 7. -  James Hendricks, formerly a resident of Brookneal, died yesterday at the Lynchburg Hospital, where he had been a patient for some time. He was eighty-two years of age.

Hudnall, Mrs. Dr. S. H. 

Brookneal, Va., December 28. – Mrs. Dr. S. H. Hudnall died Sunday at her home at Brookneal. The burial took place yesterday afternoon at 3 o’clock.

Lawson, James M. 

     LYNCHBURG, VA., January 29. – James M. Lawson, aged sixty-nine years, died to-day at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S. B. Umstead, his death being due to the grippe. He was a native of Campbell County and a member of the Brookneal Baptist Church. He represented the County of Campbell two consecutive terms in the House of Delegates. Mr. Lawson is survived by three daughters, Mrs. W. A. Rice, of Brookneal, Mrs. William Barnes, of Christianburg, and Mrs. S. U. Umstead, of Lynchburg. His wife died two months ago.

      The body was taken to Brookneal where the funeral services will be held tomorrow.

Long, Milton Baxter Jr.

LYNCHBURG, VA., Sept. 30. – Milton Baxter Long, Jr., 20 years of age, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Long, of Bedford, died Friday morning at the Lynchburg Hospital, where he underwent an operation. The body was taken to Bedford for burial.

Webb, James M. 

James M. Webb, aged seventy-nine, died on Saturday, May 11, at Brookneal. He is survived by his wife; two sons, G. T. Webb, of Richmond, and J. E. Webb, of Brookneal and by two daughters, Effie W. and Sallie E. Webb. Burial will be in Brookneal Cemetery.
