County History
An act of the General Assembly of the Colony of Virginia in 1731 created Prince William County Virginia.
It came from a part of King George Co & Stafford Co. Originally it also included a parts of Arlington Co, Alexandria City, Fairfax Co,
Fairfax City, Falls Church City, Fauquier Co, Loudon Co, Manasses City, and Manassas Park City.
The county was named after the Duke of Cumberland, Prince William Augustus - a son of King George II.
