WESTERN FIGHT
Officers and Robbers Clash After Burglary of Two Stores in
Kennewick, Wash.
Spokane, Wash., Nov. 2-Four men are dead as a
result of a battle near Kennewick, Wash., between officers and two
men who robbed two stores in Kennewick. Mike Glover, marshal of
Kennewick, was killed instantly; Jacob Lake, an ex-convict, was
instantly killed; Joe Holser, deputy sheriff, and Frank Perry,
member of a posse accidentally shot in stomach by a deputy
sheriff, died of their wounds. The captured robber gives his name as
Robert Layton, and is 18 years old. The young bandit fired four
times at close range at Harry Roseman, a citizen, but missed him.

DIES
Body of Mrs. Ralph Pratt, Former Resident, Will Be Returned for
Burial.
The body of Mrs. Ralph E. Pratt, who death occurred
Monday night, Oct. 24 in Kennewick, Wash., will be brought to
Decatur for burial. Her death was wholly unexpected, due to a stroke
of apoplexy.
Before her marriage Mrs. Pratt was Virginia Young
daughter of John J. H. Young and sister of John Young, Jr., many
years associated with the Decatur Republican. her girlhood friends
will remember her as Jennie Young. She has lived away from Decatur
for more than 30 years, first in Chicago and then in Pacific Coast
cities. Her husband Ralph E. Pratt, died more than a year ago and
his body was brought to Decatur for burial. Mrs. Pratt leaves two
daughters, Mrs. Warren Lamson and Mrs. Sam Pruyn, both of Chicago.
The funeral party will come to Decatur from Chicago via the Wabash,
Monday afternoon and go direct to Greenwood where there will be a
burial service.

Snow, Earl R.
In memory of Earl R. Snow. Passed away November 9, 1996 at
Kennewick, Wa. Was born on Feb. 27, 1904 at Winlock, Wa. to Rufus
and Lavisa Snow. Earl was in logging until 1950 when he and his wife
Bessie moved from Bellingham to Tri Cities, where he worked for
Columbia Irrigation until his retirement. They then had a small farm
at Prosser, Wa. until Bessie's death and his illness. Leaves to
survive 3 sons, Dick of Pasco, Don of Ferndale and Bob of Kennewick,
4 daughters, Joanne Tussing of Bellingham, Mildred Hathaway of Utah,
Karen Snow of Bellingham, and Linda Stull of Richland, 2
step-daughters Helen Snow of Pasco and Fran Olson of Bellingham, 4
brothers, William of Bellingham, Richard of Bellingham, Mel of
California, and Art of Texas, 1 sister Nina Cheval of Ferndale,
several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in
death by wife Bessie and daughter Dolores Britain. We will miss all
of your great stories.

Ferdinand Tauscher
News has been received in Chehalis of the death of Ferdinand Tauscher,
aged 67, of Kennewick, Washington, which occurred May 26. For many
years up to 15 yeas ago Mr. Tauscher and family were well known
residents of Lewis county, making their home for many years on
Jackson prairie. They moved to Portland from here and six years ago
to Kennewick. Funeral services were held in Portland Saturday. Mr.
Tauscher is survived by his widow, Mrs. Theresa Tauscher, two sons,
Albert and Leo and a daughter, Mrs. Mary Keller of Portland; four
brothers, Leo, Jim and Chrys tauscher of route 2, Chehalis and Frank
Tauscher of Vader; and two sisters, Mrs. Len Kuehner sr. of Chehalis
and Mrs. Harry Pette of Kent.

C.F. Preslar of East avenue, has received word of the death of
his sister, Mrs. L.J. Aldrich, who passed away yesterday at her home
in Kennewick, Washington.

Charles S. Harlan
Charles S. Harlan, a pioneer of Pe Ell, died Saturday at Kennewick. He
was 59 years of age. Funeral services and interment were held at Pe
Ell Tuesday.
