I am a temporary host for this county but will be adding information when I can. Our goal is to offer as much FREE historical and genealogical information online as we can, so what this page really needs is a host of its own. To learn what it involves to become a host please click here

If you have any questions, comments or contributions please email me through the main page. Thank you and good luck in your search!

WE REGRET THAT WE ARE UNABLE TO DO PERSONAL RESEARCH FOR YOU.

All data we come across will be added to this website, so please keep checking back.

San Juan was created out of Whatcom County on October 31, 1873. In land area, it is the smallest of Washington counties.

"San Juan County, named for one of the largest islands in Washington Sound, which should be known as San Juan Archipelago. Following the boundary treaty of 1846, a dispute arose between the British and American Govts. for the possession of this group of islands, which dispute was settled by Emperor William I., of Germany, as arbitrator on Oct. 21, 1872. On receiving information of that award the Territorial Legislature of Washington organized the archipelago into San Juan County on October 31, 1873."
