TWO LOST BROTHERS
     An unusual incident occurred in Walla Walla, Washington Territory, which illustrates the manner in which so many men on this Coast mysteriously disappear and are never again heard of by their relatives in the East. Recently the Sheriff of Walla Walla received on the same day two letters from parties in the East, each enquiring for a long lost brother. The Sheriff was compelled to convey the unwelcome information that one of the lost brothers had been hanged the week before for the murder of the other lost brother.

Charles Clark, a convict at Walla Walla, Washington, jumped on the brake beam of a car and tried to escape, but the guard put two balls in him and he fell to the ground, seriously but not dangerously wounded.

MONUMENT TO MARTYR MISSIONARIES
     The monument erected to the memory of Dr. Marcus Whitman, Mrs. Narcissa Prentiss Whitman, missionaries of the American Board, and twelve other persons who were massacred by the Cayuse Indians on Nov. 29 and 30, 1847, will be dedicated at Walla Walla, Washington, on Nov. 30 at 11 a.m. The massacre occurred at the Wahlatpu Mission, about six miles west of the present City of Walla Walla, and the monument has been erected near the site of the massacre.

UPSETS AUTO ON HER HUSBAND AND SELF
Portland, Oregon, June 1-Throwing on all power instead of cutting it off as she was driving an automobile around a corner, yesterday, at Walla Walla, Washington, Mrs. Henry Heisler caused the car to overturn, seriously injuring herself and husband. Neither is expected live. The car turned a complete somersault, pinioning the couple beneath it.

     Chicago, July 6-A gift of $50,000 to Whitman College, Walla Walla, Washington, by D.K. Parsons, the Chicago philanthropist and friend of small colleges, was announced here today. Mr. Parson's benefactions to the Washington institution now aggregate $300,000.

SYMPATHETIC STRIKE ON AT WALLA WALLA
Walla Walla, Wash., July 8-In sympathy with striking painters and plumbers who have demanded a flat raise of $1 per day in their pay, all building trades unions of Walla Walla walked out yesterday on jobs under way by members of the local employers association, and as a result most of the building activity has been halted. Grievance committees have met without success.
