Deeter, Alice G.
Visitation for Alice G. Deeter of Sumas is scheduled for 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden.
Burial will be at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday in Sumas Cemetery followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. in the Sumas Advent Christian Church, with the Rev. Carl Crouse officiating.
Mrs. Deeter died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, at the Christian Health Care Center in Lynden. She was 86. She was born April 11, 1914, to Robert and Eva (Little) Merk near Everson. The family then moved to the Sumas area where she attended school. She married Elmore Deeter in Bellingham on Jan. 2, 1932. A homemaker, Mrs. Deeter was a member of the Sumas Advent Christian Church. She enjoyed drawing, painting and doing crossword puzzles. Her parents, brothers Frances Merk and Vincent Merk, and sister Roberta Quimby preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband of the family home daughters Loretta Gray of Sumas and Lavina Beech of Big Lake, Alaska son Ronald Deeter of Stanfield, Ariz. 14 grandchildren 41 great-grandchildren 23 great-great-grandchildren brother Lyle Merk of Sumas and numerous other relatives.
Arrangements are by Gillies Funeral Home of Lynden.

Deeter-Forthun, Margaret L.
Visitation for Margaret L. (Minaker) Deeter-Forthun of Sumas will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. in Sumas Cemetery, with the Rev. Bill Peters officiating.
Mrs. Deeter-Forthun died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Young at Heart Adult Care Home near Everson. She was 90.
Born Sept. 16, 1909, to William and Rosa (Ihme) Minaker near Sumas, she grew up there.
In 1926, she married Oliver Deeter. They later divorced. On June 11, 1979, she married Lewis Forthun. They moved to Oroville, then returned to Whatcom County in 1988. He died in 1989.
Mrs. Deeter-Forthun was a homemaker and worked for many years as an egg candler for Bookey's Hatchery. She attended many Assembly of God churches and was a member of Nooksack Valley Assembly of God Church until her death. She loved to teach Sunday school and make quilts. She created more than 100 quilts. She also enjoyed gardening and canning.
A son, Richard Deeter, died in 1982. Nine of her 10 siblings also died previously.
Survivors include sons Ervin Deeter of Sumas and Bernard Deeter of Everson daughters Gladys Abitia of Bellingham, Rose Alsum of Lynden and Loretta Slocum of Helena, Mont. five stepchildren sister Martha Calvin of Bellingham 24 grandchildren 53 great-grandchildren six great-great-grandchildren and many other relatives.

DeGolier, Beatrice Joyce
On May 7, 2007, Beatrice Joyce DeGolier of Bellingham, WA, age 69, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family after a 7 1/2 year battle with ovarian cancer.  She was born in Grover, Colorado September 9, 1937 to Clarence and Dorothy Moore.  Bea graduated from Pocatello high school in Pocatello, Idaho.  She attended Idaho State University and graduated from Western Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and Masters of Education degree.  She married Larry DeGolier of Bellingham, Washington June 10, 1967 and together they raised their four children.  Bea started her teaching career at the Lummi Education Center where she taught preschool and Kindergarten for three years.  She enthusiastically shared her love of books with children for 27 years as the librarian at Mountain View school in Ferndale, WA.  Bea loved to tell stories as well as hear stories from her many students, their parents, friends and family.  Her love of reading and sharing books continued with her wonderful friends in the Erlichda Book Club with whom she shared adventures, stories and books for 25 years.  Bea enjoyed gardening, music, reading, researching her family tree and travel.  After retirement, Bea and Larry traveled extensively including several trips to Europe and Holland with their dear friend Jan DeNooyer.  Bea loved to see new places and meet and visit with people.  Wherever she went she touched those around her with her spirit.  She was devoted to her children and grandchildren and was involved in all of their lives.  Family, friendship and relationships were the most important things in her life.  Bea touched so many people with her positive attitude, her love of children, her passion for reading and storytelling, her sense of humor and her belief in families and the power of the human spirit.  She amazed us all with her curiosity, her boundless enegry, her passion for life and her genuine affection.  She and Larry welcomed everyone into their home and gave us all comfort.  The memory of her beautiful smile will always remind us of her kindness and enduring spirit.  Throughout her long and courageous battle with cancer, Bea inspired us with her enormous optimism, strength and grace.  In the face of adversity a person's true character is revealed.  She faced her fight with an amazing attitude.  For four years Bea was the captain and lead sponser of Team True Grit, a team that helped raise money for cancer research at the Swedish SummeRun in Seattle.  She never complained and never felt sorry for herself.  She maintained her sense of humor and love until her last breath.  Beatrice and her family were deeply moved by the outpouring of love, caring and compassion of so many friends during her illness. A special thinks to Dr. Saul Rivkin and his staff at the Swedish Medical Center in Seattle for their loving care and their gifts of hope and precious time.  Beside her parents, Bea was preceded in death by her brother Dr. William Moore, her mother-in-law Dorothy DeGolier, brother-in-law Dick DeGolier and nephew Reece DeGolier.  Bea is survived by her husband of 40 years, Larry DeGolier; sons, Lou DeGolier of Bellingham, Dan (Dorothy) DeGolier of Bellingham, and Jim (Susan) DeGolier of Bellingham; and daughter Lisa (Jeff) Durham of Puyallup, WA; sisters-in-law, Linda (Ron) Bronsema of Everson, WA, Anneke (Don) Bennett, of Coeur d'Alene, ID, and Carla Brigmantas of Bellingham; nieces, Linda (John) Porter of San Francisco, CA, Ellie (Rod) Marchiando of Rapid City, SD, Tonja DeGolier of Seattle, WA, Rhonda Longoria of Everson, WA, and Julie Bronsema of Bellingham, WA; grandchildren, Kole DeGolier, Makena DeGrolier, Aspen DeGolier, Logan Bell, Conner Bell, Marissa Bell and Elizabeth Durham; and numerous other relatives.  DeLange, Harold
Harold DeLange of Bellingham, WA, passed away in Bellingham on Tuesday, May 22, 2007.  He was 79, born November 7, 1927, in New Holland, SD, to Cornelia (Den Besten) and Cornelius DeLange.  Harold grew up in South Dakota, where he graduated from Corsica High School.  He attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  In 1946, he moved to Lynden, WA, where he met and married Jean (Dukie) Vander Pol and worked in sales at the Lynden Department Store.  He then worked as a men's clothing salesman in Bellingham for many years, eventually opening his own store (The Pro's) with partner George Provias.  Harold also spent 2 years teaching retail at Whatcom Community College.  His marriage to Jean ended in the 1970's.  Thirty years ago he met, fell in love with, and married Olive (Murphy) Wilson, who has been his companion and joy ever since.  Harold is survived by his wife Olive; daughter Jane (Bruce) Skinner; stepdaughter Maureen King; 4 grandchildren: Nathan, Leisha (Brett), Brittany, and Eileen; great-grandchildren: Dawson and Sierra; brother Jake (Retta) DeLange of Palos Heights, IL; sister Sylvia (Jim) Vermuelen, of Plymouth, MI; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Neal, and sister Etta (De Jong). DenAdel, Lena
A memorial service for Lena DenAdel of Sumas will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Everson Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, at Sorenson and Goodwin roads, preceded by burial at noon in Sumas Cemetery.
Mrs. DenAdel died at her home on Thursday, March 30, 2000. She was 83
Born on May 3, 1916, in Lynden to Gerrit and Myna (VanderHoek) VanWeerthuizen, she married Harvey DenAdel in Nooksack. They operated a dairy farm together on Rock Road.
Mrs. DenAdel also was a cake decorator from 1962 to 1985 and delivered the Lynden Tribune in the Everson-Sumas area. She was a member of the Everson Kingdom Hall.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995, son Robert DenAdel in 1994, sister Tena Plotts and brother Pete VanWeerthuizen.
Survivors include daughter Clara Compton of Nooksack son Gerald DenAdel of Sumas sister Minnie Roosma of Lynden brother Maurice VanWeerthuizen of Auburn 13 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Gillies Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Lynden.
