Almota
Almota, a town and three creeks
in Whitman County. The creeks are West Almota, Little Almota and Almota. Rev.
Myron Eells is authority for the statement that the name is a corruption of the
Nez Perce word "Allamotin," meaning "torch-light fishery." Lewis and Clark
camped there on October 11, 1805, and mention the Indian houses which John Work
of the Hudson's Bay Company found and described in his journal of 1825.
