Samuel Hanson

Samuel Hanson, Naval Purser (1804 - 1811) Samuel Hanson's career began as appointee during Thomas Jefferson's presidency. Hanson's accusations regarding Commodore Tingey and other Washington Navy Yard employees led to an official enquiry. The Board of Enquiry found the charges without merit. Samuel Hanson was removed from the Service by Direction of the Secretary of the Navy Paul Hamilton (See his letter of 22 March 1810). Hanson unsuccessfully appealed his removal for many years to Presidents Jefferson & Madison.
