This photo was taken during lunch brake when the Naval Gun Factory Mechanics played baseball in the NGF Shop league and against other government agencies such as Treasury and Department of Army. The Building on the right is the WNY Firehouse.

Joseph Padgett rear row 2nd from left came from a long line of yard employees, his father Joseph, had also worked at the yard and is mentioned numerous times in the diary of Michael Shiner. In 1908 he was 65 years old he would finally retire in 1920 at age 77. Like many other yard employees his own son (A.E. Padgett) and grandson (Chester Morgan) continued the family tradition. Joseph Padgett first came to work at the Yard in 1855 as a youthful apprentice. He spent over half a century in the NGF's Shops. He had a long-standing enthusiasm for baseball and was a member of the factory baseball team for many years.
