Barracks Row
Located on Capitol Hill is Washington D.C.'s oldest commercial corridor,
8th Street, SE, also known as ’Barracks Row” because of its close proximity to the U.S. Marine Corps barracks at 8th & I Street.
This area now has a self directed tour through 16 historical sites including:

The Home of John Phillip Sousa, ’the March King”

The Oldest continously manned Marine installation

Christ Church - Washington DC oldest Episcopal Church

The Washington Navy Yard

Many of the early navy yard officers, mechanics and laborers lived in this section of Ward 6
 
( including WNY Diarist Michael Shiner who is now honored with a photo of his manuscript at Stop # 9).
