[Last Will and Testament of John Adlum (1759 -1836) District of Columbia, 1836 Box 13] In the Name of God! Amen I John Adlum of Washington County District of Columbia do make this my last Will and Testament First. I authorise and empower my Executors herein after named to sell and dispose of all my real Estate wheresoever the same may be - and make to the purchasers good and sufficient deeds for the same on receiving the full purchase money therefor - Second. I direct my Executors to pay to each of my surviving sisters in Pennsylvania the sum of fifty dollars annually - which Sum is to be paid from the sales of my lands in Pennsylvania - and this sum of fifty dollars to be paid to each during her natural life. Third. I do hereby appoint my beloved wife Margaret and my son in law Cornelius Barber Executrix and Executor of my last Will and Testament - hereby revoking all others Fourth. After all my debts shall have been paid, it is desire that my whole estate, estate real and personal be divided and distributed among and between my wife and two daughters, Margaret C. Barber and Ann Maria Adlum, according to the Intestate laws of the District of Columbia. In Testimony whereof I have reason to set my hand and Seal this Twenty ninth day of February in the year one thousand and eight hundred and thirty six. Signed, Sealed and declared by the [signed] John Adlum (SEAL) above named John Adlum as his Last Will and Testament in the presence of the aforesaid who at his request and in his presence and in the presence of each other, have subscribed their names as witnesses thereto. Nathan Lufborough [signed] Chr R. Bell [signed] N.W. Washington [signed] A 2 + District of Columbia Orphans Court Washington County March 25 - 1836 - This day appeared, Nathan Lufborough & Charles R. Bell two of the subscribing witnesses to the aforegoing last will & testament of John Adlum late of Washington County aforesaid deceased , and Severally made oath on the Holy Epistles of almighty God, that they did see the Testator therein name, sign and seal this will,-that he published, pronounced & declared the same to be his last will and testament and that at the time of so doing he was of to the best of their apprehensions of sound and dispensing memory and understanding - and that they together with N.W. Washington the other subscribing witness respectively subscribe their names as witnesses to this will in the presence and at the request of the Testator , and in the presence of each other - [Signed] Henry C.
