Fifty-second Infantry WISCONSIN (1 YEAR)
Fifty-second Infantry. -- Lieut.-Col., Hiram J. Lewis.
This regiment was organized in five companies during the spring of 1865 and left the state by companies in April. It was ordered to Holden, 248 miles from St. Louis, where it guarded workmen on the Pacific railway and furnished scouting parties for protection against bushwhackers.
On June 21, it was assigned to duty at St. Louis and was mustered out Aug. 2.
Its original strength was 486. Gain by recruits, 25; total, 511. Loss by death. 6: desertion. 42: transfer. 16; discharge, 41; mustered out, 406.
