BAYFIELD (Jan. 15, 1916)

BAYFIELD, Wis. – The Presbyterian church was totally destroyed by fire Sunday morning. The fire started from a defective chimney about 6 o’clock in the morning and had gained such headway before the fire department arrived that it was impossible to save the building. It was partially covered by insurance.

Henry Stahl of Portland, Ore., is visiting in the city this week with relatives and friends.

Mr. and Mrs. William Duquette left Tuesday for New York city for an extended visit.

Mrs. Theodore Bruett left Monday for Toronto, Canada, having been called to her home on account of the serious illness of her father.

Einar Miller was a business visitor to Duluth this week.

W. S. Powell and Allen Boutin returned Tuesday from Madison, where they attended the State Horticultural society meeting.

BAYFIELD, Wis. – Mr. and Mrs. Paul Johnson have returned to Bayfield from Duluth.

Mrs. Harry Anderson was taken to the hospital at Ashland this week for treatment for typhoid fever.

Allen Boutin attended the state agricultural meeting held at Ashland Junction this week.

The junior class of the high school held its annual “prom” in the opera house Friday night.

Einar Miller was a business visitor in Duluth Monday and Tuesday.

The Lake Superior Towing company received a new engine this week from Brooklyn, N.Y., which is being installed in the tug “Bayfield.”

H. J. Wachsmuth and Harvey Nourse received a carload of sheep this week from St. Paul, Minn.

C. G. Gilbert of Madeline Island unloaded a carload of cement this week which he had hauled to the island. Mr. Gilbert intends to build a large stock barn, which when completed, will be one of the largest and most up-to-date barns in northern Wisconsin.

J. R. Bovee was in Washburn Tuesday visiting relatives.

Dr. Hertzman of Ashland was a visitor in the city Monday.

Joseph Malz of Rhinelander is in the city inspecting lumber for Danielson & Pierce of that city, which they are shipping from their stock at the Wachsmuth Lumber company’s yard.
