STANLEY - Sarah Palin, the Republican vice presidential candidate, appears to have family ties to the Chippewa Valley.
The Stanley Republican is reporting that Palin's great-great-grandfather was Homer C. Strong, who worked in the area in the 1870s.
Bob Samplawski of Stanley, a local genealogical researcher, told the newspaper this week about his findings that Strong was a relative to Palin. Strong would be Palin's maternal great-great-grandfather. Samplawski could not be reached for comment.
Strong was born Jan. 30, 1849, in Warren, Conn., the newspaper reports. He moved to Wisconsin in 1872 and helped build the railroad that connects Chippewa Falls and Eau Claire. He married Augusta Godfrey in Waverly, Ill., in 1879.
