Mrs. Pearl Langjahr,
Unity, Wis.
Dear Friend Pearl,
Brother Bill is all wrong in his history of Unity of fifty years ago. J. H. Cook’s drug store was on the corner just north of Amy Klein’s home, he also owned and lived in the house where Tony Korntved lives. The drug store burned down about the year eighteen-eighty. S. A. Cook’s general store was on the site where Ted Domer’s home now stands. S. A. Cook sold out to Rosenfield and Neumann about the year eighteen-eighty, they also purchased the corner where J. H. Cook’s drug store formerly stood and put up a small store building and a man by the name of Miller put in a stock of drugs and ran a drug store there for a short period of time, and Mose DuCate had a saloon in it for a time. The Town of Brighton finally bought it for a Town Hall. Rosenfield and Neumann built the skating rink and opera house just north of the drug store building. At the time the building burned, it belonged to Mr. Alfred Cook.
Yours sincerely,
Chas. Creed
Thank you for your nice letter, Charley. You and your brother, Bill, will have to settle the history issue. If there are other “Old Timers” who would like to reminisce a bit about the Village, we’d be glad to hear from you.
