Breuer, Hedwig (2 Nov. 1874 – 27 July 1948)

* A Requiem High Mass was read Saturday morning at 9:30 o’clock at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Colby for Mrs. Hedwig Breuer, 73, who died of diabetes at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Peter Dunigan, Wisconsin Rapids. The Rev. N. B. Beschta officiated at the rite, and burial was made at Colby.
Pallbearers were Peter Apfelbeck, Tony and Albert Hoffman, Leo Hebert, Louis Hartl and Ed. Feit.
Mrs. Hedwig Breuer was born November ?, 1874, in Germany and came to the United States at the age of 18. She married George Miller in 1893 and they lived in Reeseville and Watertown, later moving to the farm on which she resided until the time of her death. Mr. Miller died and on May 10, 1904, she married Paul Breuer, who preceded her in death six weeks ago on June 9.
She was a member of the Christian Mothers Society of St. Mary’s Church.
Surviving are eight children, Ernest Miller, Riplinger; Mrs. Jack (Meta) Saunders, Milwaukee; Reuben Miller, Chicago; Mrs. Peter (Agnes) Dunigan, Wisconsin Rapids; Anton Breuer and Mrs. Ralph (Elizabeth) Greenwood, both of Milwaukee; Benjamin Breuer on the home farm and Joseph Breuer, Marshfield.
Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two sisters.

* Joseph F. Breuer, 72, Unity, died at 8 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where he was admitted Friday.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby. The Rev. Emil Hodnik will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Biff Runge, George Weiler, Rick Wilbur, Boyd Plummer, Rodrick Cook, and Donald Gipp. Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Molle, Paul Williams, Jumbo Olson, Clarence Hebert, George Miller, and Bernie Eckes.
Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Tuesday at Rux Funeral Home, Colby, where there will be a general parish rosary at 8 p.m.
Mr. Breuer was born Aug. 27, 1913 in Unity, to Paul and Hedwig (Schmidt) Breuer. He attended Colby and Unity schools. He married Merle Korntved Aug. 27, 1947 in Waukegan. She survives.
He served overseas in the U.S. Army from 1941-1945. He worked as a tool and die maker in Chicago for 23 years, returning to Unity in 1971, working for the village of Unity for 14 years. He retired last year due to ill health.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a member of the VFW Post 2227 of Colby and the American Legion Post 358 of Unity.
Surviving besides his wife, are two daughters, Mrs. James (Marlene) Mews and Mrs. Richard (Pat) Burke, both of Brookfield; five grandchildren; two brothers, Ben, Unity, and Michael, Milwaukee; and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Greenwood, Milwaukee.
He was predeceased by his parents, one sister, two step-brothers and one step-sister.

* Merle D. Breuer, 79, formerly of Unity, died March 20, 1999, at Marian Franciscan Center in Milwaukee.
Funeral services will be at noon Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby. The Rev. Father John Malik will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in the town of Colby, Clark County.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Thursday at Community Funeral Home in Colby. A combined Christian Mothers and Parish Rosary will be held at 4 p.m.
Merle was born Sept. 23, 1919 in Marathon County to Anton and Frieda (Voth) Korntved. She attended Unity school. She was married to Jerome Danner in 1937. He died and she married Joseph Breuer in 1947. He died Oct. 12, 1985.
Merle lived in Chicago for 21 years working for Zenith for 14 years. She moved back to Unity in 1971 and worked at Land O’ Lakes in Spencer for 11 years. She moved to Brookfield in 1991.
She was a member of St. John Vianney Church, Brookfield and American Legion Auxiliary Post 358 in Unity.
She is survived by her daughters, Marlene Mews of Brookfield and Patricia Burke of Brookfield.
