* Neillsville – The Rev. Alfred Schewe, pastor, will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Tuesday Dec. 31 in St. John’s Lutheran Church for Charles F. Greeler, 82, who died Saturday morning at his home on route 1, Neillsville. Burial will take place in the Neillsville cemetery. The body is reposing at the Georgas Funeral Home.
Charles F. Greeler was born on April 20, 1875, in Dodge county, where he received his education. As a young man he was employed in Harvard, Ill., on the railroad. At the age of 19 he came to Clark county and worked in the woods in the winter time and on the Edwald Gault Sr. farm in the summer.
In 1903 he purchased the farm which was his home for the next 56 years. He was active in the Farmers Union, secretary of a cheese factory in the town of York and served on the Happy Hollow School board for over 30 years. He also was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church for 50 years and of its men’s club.
On Oct. 4, 1904, he was married at Spencer to Minnie Schwantes, who survives him.
Other survivors are one son, Erwin Greeler, on the home farm; one sister, Mrs. Emil (Amelia) Winkelman, route 1, Neillsville; 2 half-brothers, William Greeler and Edward Greeler, Neosho, and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Frank, and one half-sister, Mrs. Rudolph (Ida) Hundt.

* Neillsville – Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church for Erwin H. Greeler, 82, Route 4, Neillsville, who was pronounced dead on arrival at 3:37 a.m. Friday at Neillsville Memorial Hospital.
The Rev. Richard F. Weber will officiate. Burial will be in the Neillsville Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Music will be provided by Marilynne Maciejczak, accompanied by Sharon Nemitz.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Monday at Gesche Funeral Home, also until 11 a.m. Tuesday and then for an hour before services at the church.
Mr. Greeler was born Oct. 30, 1905, in the town of York, a son of the late Charles and Minnie Greeler. He attended Happy Hollow School, town of York, St. John’s Lutheran School, Neillsville, and Neillsville High School.
He farmed with his parents, later taking over the home farm which he operated until his retirement in 1975.
He married Lorena W. Matter June 18, 1931, in Spencer. She survives.
Mr. Greeler then assisted his son on the farm until his death. He was a former supervisor from the town of York and was on the Happy Hollow School Board for many years. He also was a member of St. John’s Church and the Neillsville Senior Citizens.
Surviving besides his wife, are one son, Erland, Neillsville; three daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Delores) Zipfel and Mrs. Harold (Janice) Mayer, both of Neillsville and Mrs. Roger (Lucille) Tyler, Granton; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

* Neillsville – Lorena Greeler, 86, Neillsville, died Feb. 17, 1994, at Neillsville Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Neillsville, with the Rev. Richard Weber officiating. Sharon Nemitz will be organist, and Marilyn Maciejczak will be soloist.
Burial will be in Neillsville City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Wayne and Brian Greeler, Dennis and Bradley Zipfel, David Tyler and Mary Mayer.
Visitation will be at Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, from 6-9 p.m. Sunday and then at the church one hour prior to service time Monday.
She was born Feb. 16, 1908, in the town of Spencer, to the late Edward and Bertha (Mellenthin) Matter. She was educated in Spencer and then worked as a secretary at the Co-op in Spencer. She was also the church organist at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer for several years. She was married to Erwin Greeler June 18, 1931, in Spencer, and he died Nov. 6, 1987.
After her marriage, she and her husband moved to the township of York, rural Neillsville, where they farmed for many years. She moved to Neillsville in 1987 and resided at the Concern Apartments until the time of her death.
She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid. She was a charter member of the Good Neighbors Homemakers Club in Neillsville.
She is survived by one son, Erland of Neillsville; three daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Delores) Zipfel and Mrs. Harold (Janice) Mayer, both of Neillsville, and Mrs. Roger (Lucille) Tyler of Granton; one brother, Walter Matter of Spencer; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was also predeceased by one brother and one sister.
Greeler, Minnie J. (10 Sept. 1884 – 26 Nov. 1971)

* Neillsville – Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church here for Mrs. Minnie J. Greeler, 87, of Neillsville, who died late Friday at Memorial Home. The Rev. Norman W. Lindloff will officiate and burial will be made in the Neillsville cemetery.
Friends may call at the Georgas Funeral Home.
The former Minnie Schwantes was born Sept. 10, 1884, in the town of Unity, Clark County, and was educated in the Spencer area. She was married on Oct. 4, 1904, at Spencer, to Charles Greeler and they farmed in Clark County. Her husband died in 1957, and she had resided at Memorial Home here since August of 1968.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and a charter member of its Ladies Aid, and a member of the Good Neighbors Homemaker Club.
Survivors include a son, Erwin, route 1, Neillsville; a sister, Mrs. William (Linda) Naedler Sr., Granton; three brothers, Roy Schwantes, Owen; Harry Schwantes, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and Art Schwantes, Minneapolis; four grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers.
Greeler, Myrtle D. (13 Jan. 1906 – 17 Nov. 1992)

* Myrtle D. Greeler, 86, of 711 S. Apple Ave., died at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Hospital where she had been admitted Nov. 13.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. John W. Schenck will officiate. Music will be provided by William Allen, soloist, and Juliann Baxter, organist. Burial will be in Hillside Lutheran Cemetery.
Relatives will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Hansen Funeral Home and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time.
She was born Jan. 13, 1906, in Spencer, to August and Helen (Cammers) Schwantes. She attended Spencer Elementary School and was a graduate of Spencer High School. After high school, she attended the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point, where she earned a degree in elementary education, and later earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 1962.
She married George W. Greeler June 8, 1928, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Spencer. He preceded her in death on May 10, 1974. She taught at rural Clark and Marathon county schools and for the Spencer School District from 1957 – 1972. Following her retirement, she taught as a substitute teacher in Marshfield public and parochial schools for several years.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Marshfield Historical Society, Marshfield Senior Citizens Club and the Wisconsin Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by two sons, DuWayne of Lithopolis, Ohio, and Allen B. of Waukesha; one daughter, Eilene J. Kleba of Milwaukee; one sister, Laura Manthe of Marshfield; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband; twin sons which died shortly after birth in 1936; and two brothers, Alvin Schwantes and Emil Schwantes.
Memorials may be designated to the family who will establish a memorial at a later date.
